Hello all, Haven't bin on here a while just wondering if anyone has done a conversion in the above title.(9N3 gti) with changing the gearbox from 5speed to a 6speed gearbox. I am seriously thinking of doing this conversion if nothing major is needed. am i right to believe that the gearbox mount is slighty different? calling to the polo gti gurus. many thanks in advice. hope someone can help.

I think there was a 6 speed offered. 02t? Or 02M. So I would imagine you would need the box which could be from any vag car as long as same type. And then the mount, which I imagine isn't that dear new from vw as I would think there aren't too many used ones available.

There may also be a driveshaft issue, as the casing may well be a little longer, so may need one shatter shaft.

The linkages I would think are the same as its just cables, no physical steps etc in the mechanism so when loose you could move the stick wherever, thus physically possible to select invisible 6th gear.

May be helpful to give a specialist vw breakers a call, like Stevens vw for instance as they Would no doubt know exactly what's needed, and would be happy to tell you on the basis you suggested you purchase the bits from them :)

Thanks for the reply, yes i'm sure the linkage is going to be fine i was just mainly wondering what gearbox is actually needed by codes. i know a few people have done this sort of change but cannot find it on here.... also am i right in saying with which ever box fits ill just to change the mount itself which i'm sure another mount to fit that gearbox would fit? any help again would be appriecated..

I'm not too firms liar with it tbh, but mount wise you will no doubt need the metal bracket that attaches to the box and the rubber mount and its bracket that attaches to the chassis leg.

Tbh it's probably a lot better / easier to find a Gti with a 6 speed being broken and get the bits off that. As a minimum I would get the mountings from it.

Best to ring around the specialist vw breakers. Price wise they are no doubt the same as elsewhere but they are more likely to know what mountings etc you will need.
