I recently bought a 1999 vw polo 6n. roughly 90k miles. what should i do with the engine to keep max performance and to keep it running like new.

Nothing really beats regular servicing and preventative maintenance with good quality parts.

So an oil and filter change is a good place to start, then onto plugs, leads and other filters.

Depending on the service history getting the timing belt done if it hasn't been done recently is always a good call, while you are there replacing the water pump and tensioners etc. as well.

Don't neglect the gearbox oil levels as well, as the gearbox is made of chocolate! So top it up with 75W90 synthetic gear oil, till it dribbles out of the fill/level port (17mm hex plug) on the front face of the box
