As the weather got cold thought it would be a good idea to get a mk2f polo instead of my 1974 beetle.

Got loads of questions that I can't seem to find answers to online can anyone help?

- What is the best way to restore the bumpers and trim to a permanent black?

- What is the widest J alloys I can fit front and back?

- My brake pedal doesn't respond until around 1/4 of the way pressed down, is this normal for a polo?

Any help would be appreciated!

bumpers- boiled linseed oil from a diy store ...wipe plenty on then buff em dry after an hour or two

brakes - no not really , first thing that springs to mind is badly /non ajusting shoes in the drum , but it would be worth checking over all of the brakes to make sure its safe

I have given the brakes a small service when I first bought the car, this didn't change much however they are now tighter than before. I replaced front and rear hoses and replaced slave cylinders in both drums. I know this is wrong thread, but master cylinder potentially?

does the pedal feel better with the handbrake fully on

yes feels better with handbrake applied

then the rear shoes arent ajusting as they should

either have the drums off and check its all correct and clean , or you can jack it up and take out a wheel bolt then use a screwdriver to manualy force the ajuster wedge so the the wheels just start to drag on one click of the handbrake

already done this hand brake is solid 2 clicks, have also checked front and rear both bite at the same point.

try bleeding em again then
