Comments: I bought this car 3 months ago of one of my friends at the time i seemed to believe it was a good idea to buy a modified polo to use as my daily on cumbrian roads was not the best idea i ever had and soon realised i needed to take it off the road to start fixing the problems it has . the first problem that i ended up haveing to fix was a clogged fuel filter under the back of the car which ended up being a leaking hose not the fuel filter . then began the fun of removing the cam and tappets to replace with my new schrick parts while i was at it i removed the head and fitted a new headgasket as the old one was leaking .Also did both cam seals while i had the cam out just to be certain of no more leaks . next job of the day was replacing the crank shaft pulley side seal as it was leaking oil pretty impressivly marks the spot where ever u park it . then came the entertaining parts i got the brilliant idea in my head that the leaks in my cab were all coming from the battery tray was quite upset to say i was very right it had been welded in there in the past but it seemed they hadnt cut all the rust away so i then started cutting out all the new welds and old rusty metal while i was at it i removed the front windscreen to repair the rot around it ended up being more than i thought so repaired it and welded it as best i could then put the window back in before i cracked it i will let the pictures do the rest of the talking thanks for reading i will be updating this later today once the interiors back in cheers simonyatesvw52.

so today went as planned interior is all back in and looking a lot better than it used to i think I've stopped all of my leaks now and the horrible rust patches under the back seat and in the corner of the drivers side foot well have been repaired . Now for the fun of the day i ended up keeping the brown dash just for the fact it matches the rest of the interior going to hopefully hunt down an original interior for it in the next couple of months need to get a new exhaust built for it as mine is starting to blow quite badly again at most of the seams i guess that what i get for botching a load of old pipe together to make an exhaust haha was all good fun maybe its time to finally go quieter i shall let the pics do the talking cheers for reading simonyatesvw52.

forgot to post yesterday on whats happening with the brakes ended up removing the pistons and finding way more rust then i thought have now sent them off to get dipped to remove all rust and then once there back the rebuild can continue also realised the ebc discs i was running were getting pretty bad so have ordered a new set with more green stuff pads the pads seem to not last very long but seem to work brilliant in all weather conditons get a feeling this is just the start of the problems to come as the engine has started leaking badly from the pully side crank seal best get the engine back out and fix all these leaks gonna start replacing the rear axle for my gt one that I've just painted up also haveing to remove the disc brake conversion until i have the time to plumb in a rear brake bias valve as its a little bit to scary haveing my rears lock up before my fronts while driveing quickly will upload pics of progress in the morning

Sounds great (other than the back brakes locking up lol). Are you allergic to a camera  come on don't leave us in suspense. EBC pads don't last long to be fair but they do stop well. what master cylinder are you using??

What steering wheel exactly is that? :) want!

Also, had no idea that dash was 'rare' cause' I just scrapped a breaddy with one in :o

Going to guess Porsche 924

  • Author

steering wheel is porsche 924 prankster 2003 picked it up for penance at busfest last year best buy of the weekend ! ikiwic i dont know if the dash is a rare part tbh I've not seen any others with it in to this date saying that though i very rarely see any other polos up my way sad times

I'm gonna do the mk2 golf master cylinder dirtydubs when i do the brake bias so i can replace every brake line while I'm at it tbh it hardly ever seems to get used atm got to much work it needs doing but good news shes finally going for a new exhaust got annoyed with my old one blowing from every seem under the sun i will have to sort this picture shortage out when i fix my phone hopefully the sd card aint broken :)i will update with pics tommorow have no excuse now I'm off work for a few days haha cheers for reading guys and the nice comments :)

Edited by simonyatesvw52

Beware with the mk2 golf master cylinder conversion. The fluid reservoir won't clear the bulkhead. I had to fabricate my own bracket and adaptors and then used 2 motorbike reservoirs

it seems passion has been getting lost in this build of lately not much been done the much challengeing brakes are still needing to be finished the rear beam is still sat on the bench waiting for parts to arrive the new exhuast is on and feels like its given the old girl a new lease of life and a bit more power comapered to my old botch up one the callipers are finally finished and looking a lot better than they used to having to replace all the brake lines to fit my new rear brake bias heres a few pics as thats what this post has been lacking for quite a while now

i know many of you if you have read previous parts of this build thread u wil see that i have gone for the standard discs on the front with standard pads this is just to find out the difference between the uprated ebc stuff and standard i like to know I'm getting my moneys worth tbh haha hopefully with in the next couple of weeks she will be seeing the dyno for a few power runs and find out what the old girl is making thanks for reading sorry i took so long to update will update again soon with more pics big rust issues being cut away

so as i haven't posted in quite some time the bready has seen a little bit of paint and rust killer inside and quite a bit of welding.

The old girl decided she was due an interior makeover as i lifted up the back seat all of the paint came with them was a little bit concerning, but luckily none of it was major and managed to get away with sanding back and rust killing the lot. I ended up patching up the front floors and repairing the inner rear arch as it had a hole in, and the spare wheel well as well as a nice hole in the stangest of locations on the middle of the seat stay . The one thing i am glad about now is knowing that the old girl will be good for a few more years yet ,suprisingly enough under each one of the little bungs in the back there was loads of rust coming up, i repaired them bits rust killed and tiger sealed them back into place. Hopefully I'm gonna go pick up my new beige paint in the next couple of days pop the windows out and get the inside ready for paint :) will post more as the week goes on cheers for reading

So this month has felt like it dragged and i haven't really posted up any work of what i have been up to on the old polo. I ended up not being very happy with all the old tar on the floor and knew it would be hiding rust behind it so i set to removing it with a hammer and chisel. After 2 days on and off chiseling away i finally got there with the floor and had no tar left. So then i set to painting the whole floor with red oxide and this Easter weekend i got busy with the sound deadening and water proofing the insides. Here is a few pictures of the finished product i seem to have become lazy with camera will try not to be so lazy in the future.
