What value? of near concours 'breadvan' 33k,( for insurance)

Hi,

Insurance is due, and Adrian Flux only values it (as std) at 1K.. That is too low!I am sending in Agreed Value form but even though I know how much I spent, I wonder if anyone knows if what these have sold for, and what it would take to replace if written off!
Here's what its like, and it won best VW at Alive and Dubbin last year

What do you think?

I've seen the odd low milage one i think advertised from £1999 -2999 , unsure if they ever sell for that and they wasnt as nice as yours

hard to value really as youd never find another one like that in a hurry

Looks like it is a really clean mk2. But I'd say £1k is about right for its value. There are still plenty unabused examples out there, maybe not so clean but a bit of TLC from the right person could make it look as good.

Price it at the £2k-3k mark and if you were to try and sell it at that you're competing with tidy original G40s. Which will always be more rare and more desirable.

I realise this is for an insurance valuation rather than to sell but still. Look on eBay or classic car dealers. There is often a dreamer trying to sell one at £3k but I highly doubt they ever actually sell.

An agreed valuation is not market value even though lots of insurance companies are trying to force that these days. What they are trying to do is to agree a market value which for lots of people is fine. Historically an agreed value is where the market value of a car does not reflect 'heritage, pedigree and the condition of the individual vehicle'.

Have you actually done work on the car? to you have receipts to prove it.

Have you got a trophy for the show and shine? include a picture of it and the score sheet if you have it.

Find adverts for cars similar condition cars for sale on here/ebay as said above there has been a few up recently

Thank you everyone! its all very helpfull,especially mark crox's reply that took me to a couple of high priced ones on fleabay..

The car has had a husband and his wife owner before me, and is showing a genuine 33k from new with all the history. There isnt any rot anywhere and so I thought it ought to be insured for say £3500?- though of course it depends on the Insurance companies as to what their prepared to accept.The difficulty at a standard valuation is that if somebody runs into it, then I don't believe I could find the same for 1K!

I do appreciate that it is just a 1lt Polo c , it probably would not excite 99% of the club members, and that they probably sold by the million! but to me its pretty special and it puts a big grin on my face when i am driving it -not because its fast!!- ( I have a Corrado for that ) but because you just don't see to many around in this condition,and its a really old fashioned and that reminds me of what (some) cars were like 30 years ago.Love it.
