In need of a little advice.

I have gone a little overboard ont the brakes, I have striped them down and they have been blasted and powder coated, but I forgot to order the seals for the them. I went to order them but the appears to be a few different types listed. They are the standard 6n2 gti ones which are aluminium. I think they are 38mm?

My problem is that the new shiny powder coating has smoothed over all the markings because it's so thick. I have no idea if they are made by Lucas, ATE or TRW. Can anyone please confirm what they are?

From reading on several other forums it appears there is a good bit of a difference between the various makes.

Also, I have tried to use the old seals (piston seal and dust boot) to see how it goes back together and I'm stuck. I get the dust boot seated and then the piston meats the spindle and it doesn't turn, I have tried a DIY rewind tool but didn't go on easy and I don't want to damage it.

Any advice on getting it back together?

Front calipers go together so easily but the rears are a bit too complicated :)

Gave biggred a call and they said they are most likely Lucas . They do have 2 kits depending on disc thickness. I order both because I need this sorted a bit quicker now.

I've never taken a set of rears apart but I have changed pads on them. I'd highly recommend getting a proper rewind tool to turn the piston back in. The ones I've done have always felt quite tight.

Thanks for the link, that seams quite a comprehensive kit, I will get that I think.

I was hesitant to get another basic rewind tool because I know I have it somewhere and I can pretty much guarantee it will show up as soon as I get a new one. But that kit looks to do all sorts of callipers so will be worth having around, plus it's in its own box so won't go hiding so easily.

I had another go with the old seals earlier and I reckon if I used the proper tool it would just twist on as the shaft has a kind of thread on it.that said on one side it went on pretty much by hand so I guess that seal is shot.

I won't be doing this again in a rush :(
