I've got a a few questions about polo 6n1 suspension...

Can anybody tell me what kind of spring do they use in default configuration, the dimensions?

What can you swap it with, maybe from other cars?

The problem is, i bought a polo 6n1 already tuned by other mates, and its too low...

This polo got an engine from golf 3, and the engine weighs 200kg instead of 100 as supposed to be in the original form...

The suspension was designed for an 100kg engine.

So i want to find a replacement, use some kind of reinforced spring, that will make it little bit harder on the road, not like jelly, as it is at the moment)

And also make it a bit higher, lift it a bit.

You would probably better using the springs/struts from the 1.9 diesel version as that engine is the heaviest standard engine fitted

If those springs are not strong enough, then you will have to look for some "competition" springs as you can get them in different stiffness ratings, but they will be expensive !!

To me it doesn't look like its the car that is too low. Rather the body kit that is too low. There is still plenty of arch gap there but the front bumper looks HUGE! I'd try on a standard 6N bumper and see if that helps?

In all honesty I think the look of the car would also be improved if you ditched the bumper. Plus an almost stock look would surprise people when you kicked in a Golf engine! What engine specifically?

Thats the problem.

Its not only the body kit.

The engine was way to big, so eventually it ended up very low.

Heres how it is at the moment.

And theres no way to make the engine higher, without going through hard work, of resoldering the holders for the engine.

So the only way that i can think of, is to change the springs/struts, and make it a bit higher...

And the worst part of all, is that the workshop (garage) where I left my car to be fixed, tells me that they can not do it because they are not sure which springs/absorbers to use for this car; since the weight of the engine is too heavy and they seem to not know how to do it. So now it is up to me to find the best way to lift the car as well as finding the right shock-absorbers.

yes try diesel parts or coilover kit , you can order harder /longer springs for those

What do you all think about adjustable coilover kits?

You could use the sprigs and shocks off the mk3 golf, they are interchangeable and I would think they are made for the extra weight?

I agree the ride height looks standard, it's just the massive snow plough front bumper makes it look very low.

Also, from what I have read on other forums you can use a shallower sump to make the engine a little higher

are you sure the shocks are interchangeable with mk3 golf?

does it men that those shock absorbers are lower 40mm than stock?

Yes the front shocks and springs will 100% fit I have the shocks on my car . The top mounts are different so use the polo ones.

The above means the front springs lower the car by 40mm and the rear by 30mm because it is a kit with shocks and springs.

The rears from mk3 golf will not fit, they are too long.

Am I missing something or not but why don't you just use a late nineties ibizia gti or cupra suspension as they had vag 2L 8v and 16v engines from the factory and are 6N floorpans I do believe ?

thats alot of atch gap with compressed springs and shocks from the weight. follow the advice above and you'll bring the sump up. you may find that a large arch gap is the price you pay.

did the last guy fit a tall block engine?

Ian131, that's a very good point, forgot about the Ibiza.

It has a similar floor pan but the front suspension is essentially golf just like the polo Classic. Same springs and shocks etc as the golf, but may be easier to find parts for.

The engine will almost certainly be a tall block. If you make a spacer for the mounts, it shouldn't be too hard to raise the engine, could even weld them in to strengthen it

OR

Make a dry sump system, it has been done and should be plenty of info on the net, it's not easy or cheap but it's defiantly do able and will completely solve the problem.

Did you end up raising the suspension? If so, what method did you use? I'm looking to increase ground clearance of a 1.4 6N and also hoping to fit larger tyres. Considering fitiing mk4 Golf shocks and springs. Anyone got any tips?
