Really confused asoon as I turn ignition on the indicator/hazard click won't stop going off ( none of lights flash) when I bring indicator stick back to neutral position it clicks on its own very fast and doesn't stop; I've found the indicator relay but I'm not too sure if it is it? Is there any checks I can do to definately know what it is? I drive vw polo 6n2 2001

usually if the relay goes it wont click at all, the problem may be with the stalk

If your indicator relay is clicking but no dash or external light is clicking - read on..... if not igonre the following.

You need to prove it is the flasher relay that is clicking - remove it to be sure.

The output of the relay is fed to the indicator switch which then connects to the required indicator circuit when the indicator switch is in (either) on position.

The indicator relay feed is live with the ignition and the relay clicks as soon as the the load (indicators) are connected via the switch.

So if no lights are flashing then the wire from the relay to the switch is damaged and grounding out somewhere. When its 'slightly' grounded, the relay clicks slowly, when it is 'well' grounded, the relay clicks fast.

Whilst this could be inside the switch, just uplugging the switch will show if tis at fault.
