Almost - you'll need to get 12V from battery and find a good earth point too.

imagine it would take the power and earth direct at the battery terminals , otherwise you can use the alternator+ post

It's cheap but you could say it's cheap for a reason. Personally I would be worried about the quality components used and how it was made. Last thing you want is to watch your car go up in flames due to trying to save a small amount of money. How ever it could be amazing :)

Driving in the dark with no headlights is the more likely failure mode - but I've got thirty year old relays rated for maybe 100,000 operations, so covered maybe one third of average lifespan already.

I suppose I'm more concerned that some poor bastard made this and the relays with non-RoHS solder in bullied Shenzen factory environment.

I've ordered one nonetheless.

no worse than the home made dross you see on forums and ebay for 30-40 notes , its only a bunch of wire and a couple of relays anyway

almost everything comes from china now , ipads , headunits , tv's they tend not to burst into flames

Zoom on the relays in the listing and they are type 208 and rated 80Amp. Looks like they even have a resistor and LED to prevent coil burn and show operation. Might be better than german?

id take the feed from the alt + terminal to keep it short

Those relays are poop, they seem to suck in all moisture even where there isn't any.

The rings seem like the crappy flimsy type.

Wiring seems thick enough but could just be thick insulation.

So, may need to swap relays, but that's £10 for a good quality pair, and fit some decent ring terminals and maybe even go over all the other joints.

But all that aside it looks to be a lot of work for the money.

Mine arrived today. Relays are not transparent but marked HID H4458 40A-12vdc

which I think are made by FTD -they appear sealed against water ingress.

All looks and feels well made.

The live looks the right length to reach alternator +ve and the ring fitting looks like it might be 8mm - but I've got a Lucas plug not a terminal in my early alternator.

I don't think the red supply lead will reach starter motor - and might nor be best place.

So new fat wire from the battery +ve to the new light wiring?

(been thinking about new fat wires from alternator anyway at stevo3002's suggestion)

yeah sounds like you have no choice but to run it up to the battery if you have the multiplug alternator , just make sure its well secured so it cant chafe on anything sharp .

But Ipads etc arent on ebay for a fiver : ) theres no way I'm putting that thing in my motor.

Grommet through the bulkhead obviously. I'll mount it near offside wing where not too wet. Not in the motor.

Alternatively you can buy the Rayne headlight wiring loom - or construct one yourself from Linn loudspeaker cable and GEC Plessey telephone exchange relays.
