I've read a couple of people with 6n's talking about their buzzer not working when they've left their lights on. Did most 6n's have this as standard? because if mine had it, it doesn't work and that's something I'd like to fix as I've already left my lights on once, before I fitted a new battery. It's a 99 model, so it's one of the later 6n's (T reg)

Also when opening my drivers door my interior light doesn't come on, what would I do to fix this? It's probably related to the fact that my central locking doesn't work, which I've pretty much given up on now. Don't really need it.

first thing id check is the swiches on the door and that the bulb is good

Where are the switches on the door? I've had the door cards off before to get the electric windows sorted, only things i remember seeing are the regulator and wiring, the electric mirror plug and the speakers.

Edit; Bulb is good as it comes on if the passenger door is open and if i set it to manually.

would be quite useful to have it working again. Don't wanna leave my lights on unknowingly and drain another battery after the state the previous owner left the first one in!

I'm in the same boat as you mate with my central locking, light buzzer and interior light.

I put a thread up last night and got a response from ChrisJB330 which I'm going to try later but may also help.

"Interior light works on a switch on the inside of the door, it might be stuck, try playing with it. Other than that its fuse or bulb. If i remember right the switch is a normally closed (so when the door is open the switch is open) which is on the negative side to earth. Prise the light out with a screwdriver or trim removal tool and check for continuity for earth etc."

Ah yeah, I hadn't read your thread because it just said 'issues' could have saved myself some time there.

I'll give the door switches a shot and have a fiddle with the light! Let me know how you get on buddy.

I'm less bothered about the light and more about the buzzer, but if I have to fix one to make the other work I might as well just do it all. :)

The switch is on the post between the front & rear door in your case, the switch is a dual unit, one for the internal light, the other for the buzzer (if fitted) on yours the buzzer is internal to the speedo unit. earlier models it was a separate buzzer relay, the switch should just pull out, but be prepared to catch the bits as they are not the most reliable items !!

There should be 3or4 wires on the connector, 1or2 Brown (earth wires) Brown/White (internal light) Brown/Yellow ( lights on warning) so if you use a paperclip and short the Brown wire to the Brown/Yellow wire and switch the headlights ON remove the ignition key, the buzzer (if wired for it) should sound

Had a fiddle tonight, if I press the button manually the light comes on. So I tried the lights and there was no buzzer. Could this mean it just needs a new switch, or is there likely no buzzer?

If you short the Brown/Yellow wire to ground (Brown wire) with the headlights ON & key removed from ignition, this should sound the buzzer, (if it's wired for this)

Okay, I wasn't sure if it would have worked with the switch pressed in or not. I'll do that when it's on a driveway and I can take it apart, rather than the main road I live on!

Pressing the switch IN is the same as having the door closed, so the light & buzzer shouldn't come ON/Sound, the fact you got the light to work by pressing the switch in would tend to indicate there is a fault within the switch, You could try removing the passenger side switch and swopping it for the drivers

So upon inspecting both switches it's quite clear what the problem is!

I swapped the switches over and have a new one on the way but still no headlight buzzer. May have to try shorting the two wires when I have a bit more daylight to play with than I had yesterday.

Just out nof curiosity, do the buzers themselves ever fail. so it is actually getting power but the buzzer is caput?

Just a thought as when I bought my 6n2, buzzer was intermitent and to be honest sounded like it was on its last legs. Then one day just gave up. From visual inspection all switches etc seem fine so just couldn't be arsed with it and continued without it.

I'm thinking the same thing, the switch works on both sides but I've got no buzzer if in peace the lights on. Wondering if the the buzzer unit itself is given its Not the end of the world of I can't get it to work but it would be nice

If you remove the speedo, look for a Brown/Yellow wire connected to pin 21 if there is the buzzer should work, if you have VCDS you should be able to test the buzzer as it is also used for the low oil pressure warning when the engine is running

Got VCDS so I'll get it hooked up when I can! If it works as an oil buzzer but not for the lights would that just mean I don't have that function or could it be a fault in the wiring between the door switch and the Speedo?

There has been quite a few people with the later 6N's who've reported the lights on buzzer doesn't work, so you might be one of them, but if there is a Brown/Yellow wire on pin 21 then if you have a multimeter, connect one probe to that wire the other to chassis select ohms or continuity and see if you get a short (zero ohms or beeper sound) with the door in the open position if that works and you still don't get the buzzer in the speedo it would indicate an internal fault in the speedo unit

I've never had the Speedo off, so that's a job for a day or two off I think. I'm interested to find out though!
