In Early December, I threw caution to the wind and bought this





Its got the AEF 1.9 na diesel that is pre SDI- 64bhp.

Came with a reciept for a reconditioned gearbox (a common weak spot) fitted in 2012.

Fuel tank is 45L, so peanuts to fill

Costs as follows:

Day of purchase
Car (with mot til feb 2015) £150
front bearing £20 inc fitting by prev owner
Train down £35.50
Fuel back £25 (circa 230 miles at 50mpg imp)


Sub Total £230.50

Additional costs:

Fuel filter £13

Its had a check over for an MOT and seems not too bad- intention is to run it as cheaply as possible whilst slowly improving it- its the ideal tool for tootling to the station, or humping up and down the country when getting a new car

First thing is to do some work so it gets another MOT, then it'll possibly be some cosmetic work.

The engine dampner at the bottom is broken so it shoogles summat awful at idle when warm

Hello!said bus is still a tootlin.

Looks in decent nick, just wear and tear items to sort.

It was drivers side rear wheel cyl that needs doing yes?

Thats the side with poor efficiency readings - when I changed the bearing, tightening the brake pipe union on the cylinder seemed to stop its tiny leak. It might be a plan to strip and brake cleaner it all before replacing anything? I suppose with them being so cheap to buy there would be no harm in slapping a new one on while you're in there though!

Ideal, cheers for the info-I'll have a look at thr weekend and see if i can spot any leaking.

If i cannot get it to stop i have a new one on order anyways.

Thanks-it has a few 'cosmetic challenges'but I'll attend to them once it has an Mot.

Putting my efforts into the mechanicals to start with.

a variety of parts has arrived at the hoose today. MOT fettling starts in earnest tomorrow.

No doubt there will be an update to follow:)

This is now going the way of the first McCartney wife..

Started her off on a diet of 5L of veg to 40 or so of crushed dinosaur- what with her having the Lucas Prince of Darkness pump, I'm taking it easy!

Learning from my experiences with the AAZ engined golf, I put £20 in prior to putting the Veg in. then topped off the tank afterwards.

Off out to see the parents the now- if you hear swearing you'll know its gone well

Mission successful-32 miles completed without mishap.

We'll see how she goes with a cold start tomorrow:)
