wipers won't stop

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 51 plate 1.4 se 6n2 with an annoying problem.

switch on the ignition and front and rear wipers run continously,

Cant stop the rear wiper no matter what I do, the fronts can only be stopped by holding the rear wash on for about 3 wipes of the screen and they park.

Bought and fitted a new stalk switch, = No change

Did a full system scan but no faults logged

Haynes manual shows an X relay could this be the fault?

Too dark now to do any more so will get the relays exposed tomorrow

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The X contact relief relay is very unlikely to give your problems as it supplies power to many other circuits, it's more likely to be the wiper relay

Strangest thing; went to the boot this morning to retrieve tools, back to the drivers side to begin removing the facia panel, quick ignition on check (just in case the fault has gone away) and hey presto wipers working as they should. so that rules out the relay and I have already changed the stalk switch.

this leads me to think its something associated with the rear wiper (original symptom = only way to stop the fronts was to wash the rear).

removed the tailgate trim, everything under there looks brand new, no water ingress all conections good. boot open warning lamp operating as it should

so for now problem fixed.

if it occurs again I'll try opening and closing the boot before I spend any more money!!

Fault returned (no surprise there) took your advice nige8021 and fitted a new relay.

Problem gone for now and I hope it stays that way.

Thanks for the advice
