After sitting here and just having bought filters online for a service I am doing for the car, something I never usually do as more often or not I like to see the filter before I buy it. That way I can gauge the quality etc.

My wondering is, have you gents and any ladies amongst us that get their hands dirty found any differing quality in filters and servicing parts between vw dealer stuff and cheaper alternatives.

I used to buy dealer all the time until it seemed like I was getting bent over a barrell on prices. Then the usual Mann or whatever my local GMF would stock. On this occassion I went with a company called AP. Never heard of them before, but bought all filters (Cabin, fuel, air and oil) for less than £25.

Anyone heard of them before, used them or have opinions on differing makes of filters and servicing components?

yeah the cheapest dregs like topran etc are obviously cheaper made , i recently swapped a topran air cleaner for a mann on the mk2, the mann has metal mesh to stop it colapsing the topran had nothing

no need for dealer stuff , but stick to stuff like bosch , beru , mann you should be fine you can often google who makes what for the oem

Bosch are always a good option if they are available, if not Mann are pretty good.
