Policy changes

Has anybody got any tips on how to deal with an insurance company? They quoted me a price of £23.95 to declare my Coilovers but now that I'm actually trying to declare them that price has magically risen to £52.73 even though I contacted them with my previous quote. Its getting near the end of the month and I'm going away the day after tomorrow so I barely have more than the price they've now decided on in my account!

I can't really go as far as to threaten to cancel my policy because I can't afford to re-insure if I do that! Anybody got any pro-tips?

Moved this to the paperwork section for you.

Really there is nothing much you can do. You need to get the coilovers added to your policy otherwise you are driving about uninsured. Do you pay monthly? If so ask if they can spread the payment over your existing payments, may not feel like such a big hit then.

Other than that there is nothing much you can do, cover costs can only really be negotiated at the start of a policy or at renewal times.

Threatening to leave in my experience doesn't really make them budge, plus they will probably try and charge you for that too.

Really once they have you tied into a policy they pretty much have you over a barrel when it comes to making changes. I'm guessing it is a mainstream company like Elephant or the like?

Yeah, didn't really think about where I was putting it. Sorry!

I'm with Admiral. :/ that's a bit of a pain. No, I paid in a lump sum so they want the £52odd in one go, right when I've hardly got any to give. I suppose I'm just going to have to try and push them back down.

they are probably adding on the "Admin" fee, as kwijibo says, they have you over a barrel really, can someone you know sub it to cover till you get paid?

Ah well , at least I know it Will be declared and it can't kick me up the arse later. I'm thinking of changing from admiral in July anyway, I'll have one year of no claims. Hoping one of the companies on here might give me a good price

It does sound like more of a quoted price and haven't bothered to include the admin charge which is usually always is for making alterations to a policy.

As for a new policy in July i'd recommend that you do shop around and depending on age and where you are I'm sure our sponors can help!

All the best

My insurance runs out on the 12th and I'll be 22 on the 27th. Don't know how much difference that makes. I don't think Cornwall's too expensive an area for insurance, I'll have a look at the club sponsors :)

Some companies admin charges are a total killer and in my eyes totally overpriced.

Some charge £30+ for a blonde bimbo to type in a reg number and press return. Even the price of the documents and postage ontop of that (which will be like 50p) I don't see how they can charge so much.

Since you're over 21 you should be ok to get insured with some of the specialist insurance companies come renewal time.

i argue all admin fees and have my documents emailed over to me so they cant claim postage. asking £20/30 for an 'admin fee' is as wrong as these overrated bank charges imo when indeed all they do is tap afew buttons and press return then print off a piece of paper. any company who charge that i dont deal with.

Admiral email all documents. They took the £56odd from my account, which then overdrew and Barclays took even more from me, even though I asked them not to take the money just yet if it was going to be more than originally quoted. Then I got underpaid by about £450 this month and just like that, I seem to be in debt.

So thank you admiral. Won't be renewing in July! I'll take my years no claims and go elsewhere.

With 'Admin Fees' and insurance companies all you have to do is kick up a fuss and stick to your guns and say you want to speak to a manager then they will say "on this one off occasion we wont charge you our admin fee" .

I work for an insurance company and I get this on a daily basis from clients calling up.
