Needs to see a rolling road. I have been wanting to know what this is making for so long now [emoji14]

I really hope to see it close up one day and have a good look at your work

Standard GT rad, lower thermostat and oil cooler help a lot though. Since I got the timing sorted properly water temp sits at about 80°C and the oil sits at 70°C on the road.

On the track is a difference story though.

I'm thinking of heat wrapping the downpipe next to try and take temps down a bit more when on track.

Do you have a target time for the drags?

Maybe 14 or 15 seconds on road tyres would be nice, heat wrapnis great on the down pipe, but it's horrible itchy stuff, I fitted a 71 degree thermosat and a low temp switch and it's been spot on, it only hit 110 the other day as it was hot and it ha an intense few minutes on boost lol

Got so into this that I read the whole thread! This build sounds awesome! My first car was a 1l that someone decided to write off for me. Now I have a fast diesel Bora for a daily I've been looking into getting a mk2f and doing some crazy conversion, for a weekend toy. This sounds like a perfect fix! Top work buddy!

I have a golf diesal for a daily and this is the weekend screamer, it's awesome and the noise is unreal when the boost kicks in, I highly reccomend a boosted polo tin can.

Sounds good dude. I've been toying with a couple ideas but I think I'm going with a cut n shut, 1.8t 20v in the boot. Get that running couple hundred bhp easy. And rwd goodness 😁😁😁

I've been thinking that aswell with the lower subframe ect, if I get my dream workshop I'd give it ago, thier is a black one about with a 20vt in the back, also a white 2f with a jap 2.5 engine in the engine bay and rwd looks mental.

Any news on further work or a rolling road day booked in?

This one is too exciting and I end up with withdrawal symptoms when there aren't proper updates haha

What about dropping a Polo body on an MX5 front and rear subframe? Not my idea...but going by what I've seen and how close they are for size it would probably be an easier conversion than making your own subframe to fit whatever engine you have in mind.

Then with an MX5 the 1.6 engines are good for a bit of boost, or I've even seen people put LS V8 engines in them....

Yeah loads off stuff going on next week, goona change the rad sort out some vac feeds, and get it ready for drag racing on the 14th still no rr yet as I'm not happy with it a 100% yet due to the spark timing.

This thing was awesome on the 1/4 mike drag strip, shame it was raining, traction was a problem, I managed 48 runs in the day with only 2 things break which I fixed and kept on dragging, more info soon :D

So best time was 15.84 but no traction so that was fun, I still got first place on the day for class 1 in the 60ft times ( doing 60ft in 1.96 seconds ) beating a pretty quick old mini. car preformed well apart from I snapped the servo pipe and the radiator fan fell off, well hanging from the wires, but I managed to fix it their luckily, this is the slimline fan bracket, but it needs Abit of tweeking.

That is a really good 60ft time for being a wet day. My best 60ft time in the dry is a 2.29. Are you going to do more next year?

  • Author

Not sure how accurate it is too be honest, yeah hopefully doing abit more next year, maybe Santa pod if I'm lucky, and hopefully a track day in January at bedford autodrome, as the price for a group is pretty good.
