Been driving it daily bedding in the new clucth and brakes :)

Manage to get the subframe to fit ok? Was the chop up just for sump clearance?

Like the black bay, thinking of doing this myself, it's such an awkward thing to keep clean!

Yeah sump clearance, I've had it sleeved and re welded an inch lower, yeah the black bay has stayed pretty clean so far for a rattle can job, done allmost 700 miles in it this week :) playing with the timing a d getting used to this 8p box

Autosolo at a car show, Think the subframe speaks for itself, need to sort the exhaust out though.

Gear linkage failure tonight, First the bush popped out then the bracet around the ball popped down, managed to fix it to get me home, also turboing a mates saxo at the moment which should be fun.

set mine up to run full power but it was starting to det, so think im gonna pop the spark plugs out see what they look like and see if thiers any carbon build up on them.

Need mappable ignition now lol

Polo is kicking its feet up for a few days.

2 new wheel bearings and work on the gear linkage.

I'm part way into my build and I was wondering if I could ask some questions:

1. Have you have modified the gearbox to take the extra power?

2. Does your K03 have water cooling?

3. Are you having a draw through through or blow through carb set up?

4. Where were you planning to inject the water methanol mix? I can't get an answer if the water is sprayed on to compressor wheel will cause it harm.

I am going to use a Subaru stock intercooler which will sneak in behind the grill on the drivers side with part of the head light frame cut away to make the car look as stock as possible. This is probably only possible with a round headlight Mk2. I have put the water methanol tank in the boot along with the battery to save space in the engine bay.

Phil

@PHIL SWARBRICK stock 8p gearbox now works great, would like a atv with a diff though,

yep 10mm copper pipes and tig welded bits, its more like a cooling system heater then a turbo cooler ;)

blow through ( i make adapter plates to fit the turbo carb)

water methonal is gonna be sprayed after the intercooler on the top pipe going into the carb, dont want water build up in the intercooler ect.

Fairplay alot fit the tanks and that in the boot,

you at polo social?

Thanks for all that info. I'm glad that my 8P may hold together after all. I guess ATV gearboxes although desirable are few and far between now. Also those that have them are going to hang on to them. After some research my son found that K03 is water cooled for its longevity so I'm definitely going to do that. It's just a question of where I take the water from. Primarily I am using the water methanol for cooling to get manifold  air temperatures down to increase density of the air entering the engine, not so much as a detonation prevention. That I hope will be handled by boost retard in the MSD. Good luck with your set up. Do you have a way of richening the fuel under boost because most carb set ups only see flow rather than density so there is the potential of it running lean? I know some people use an injector to richen up mixtures when needed. If there is a social in the south east, I would consider attending.

@PHIL SWARBRICKmy water is taken one from the top rad pipe and the other from the pipe that goes under the expansion tank,

its a turbo carb so made for boost it has a air corrector jet which is a air jet which affects the fueling ratio on boost depending the amount of air, it also has a boost fed fuel accelorator pump which is like a built in additional injector which squirts fuel in if the throttle has been opened quickly, then thiers the first stage and second stage jets, which the second stage affects fueling on boost, so thiers a good few things i tinker with,

mine runs sweet on the button,

what water meth kit have you got?

Your carb sounds like it's really sorted and does not lean out at any point. It makes me feel I have taken the easy way out with injection. Thanks for the tips about where to get the turbo cooling water from. Could I use a small silicon or rubber heat proof hose instead of copper? I havn't got a kit for the water meth. The tank in the boot is a lorry one that I bought simply because it is nice and square (for mounting purposes) plus has a large capacity but has three pumps that is probably overkill. They act as lift pumps to a much higher pressure pump near the engine forcing fluid through a jet rated at 0.5 l/min that is a specific jet for the job. The idea I think is to atomise the water meth as much as possible so it is more like a gas. As we discussed earlier I have no idea where the injection is going to be but I don't want to risk the compressor of the  K03 by spraying cold fluid on to a hot metal. I am going to look at possible benefits of water methanol off boost as well. During WW2 the Americans used water injection in unboosted aircraft engines to increase horsepower by vast amounts. At the moment I am building the 8P which is so hard to get apart because I think VW didn't want people like me taking them to pieces. As soon as I get the selector wheel off the primary shaft I will be able to move forward. At the same time I am upgrading the fuel tank to 10mm lines to make sure there is enough fuel flow now that I have mastered TIG bronze welding.

Pretty cool info, yeah rubber pipes are fine for the water cooling on the turbo, prob better because it would keep the heat away i have a mate who works at a tuning place, he rekons with water meth he can push 15 degrees past det when he's setting up cars, standard 2f fuel lines are fine, but nothing wrong with bigger pipes

No real progress just loading it up with camping gear ready for the social :)

went to bhp fuel fest local to me.

Had abit of a problem with it starting to det on full throttle, a play with the carb and i fitted iridium spark plugs for a g40 with a 7 heat rating, ive been running 5 heat rating plugs for the last year Haha,

done a couple more local shows ect all good fun. Couple random photos from the socal and a spoiler ive been making.

I was planning on turboing my mk2 1.3 carb. Would you use the original carb and what size turbo is recommended?

Cheers

Mines a k03 which is pretty good, i just copyied what the g40 boys were doing, k03 is good for 190-200, no a turbo carb is best or a carb converted for blow through, unless you want to do a draw through setup, bike carbs can be converted too run boost too, or just stick g40 managment on it.

Thanks alot for your advice do you know where i could pick up a turbo carb? What is the easiest one in your opinion to fit and get working ?

Cheers
