starters are apparently all the same, except diesel model

you have a choice of manufacturers though

part number // description // original part number

031 911 023 A = bosch (DIESEL ONLY) = #031 911 023 AX

036 911 023 K = marelli = #036 911 023 HX

036 911 023 M = Bosch = 036 911 023 MX

036 911 023 N = Hitachi = 036 911 023 MX

036 911 023 G = Bosch = 036 911 023 MX or #036 911 023HX

dizzy caps, it lists:

b 030 905 207 - earlier dizzys (ALL polos, including G40) [>>80-M-100000]

b 051 905 207 - later dizzys (ALL polos, including G40) [80-M-100001>>]

edit: i didnt think the dizzy cap mattered between the models.... but dont hold me to that

dont know why dealer couldnt find it, its all on etka.

does that help?

vagcat says

8X1015MM / G40

030145933A / KEILRIEMEN / €14.8

but dont know what vw would charge here in the uk with vat,currency conversions and general uk tax. lol

cam belt for G40?

cam belt for G40?

its shown twice on the first page of this thread

= 030 109 119 A - timing belt - G40

gsf: 13106 TIMING BELT-ROUND TEETH PO 1.3 10/90>7/94 (Eng. PY002178> 2G262740> 3F008527>) £6.40 +vat

all but the mk2 g40s etc... but there isnt any/many original ones in the country (ie engine code is less than 2178)

spark plugs for a G

Has anyone got the numbers for standard G40 piston rings, had a look on eurocarparts and gsf but they dont seem to list them?

g40 (py) ring set is same as HZ,NZ,2G,AAV,ACM.

etka tells me that they are different to the gt (3f) and AAU, also different to 1W (Diesel)

i found out from the piston ring manufacturers and from tecdoc that the ones that gsf sell (Thompson TH83213-STD (GSF # 16534)) were the ones recommended for the G40 as well as all the other petrol models

have fitted these gsf ones and got no problems.....

Cheers mate. Dont suppose you know if GSF stock; big end shells, mains and thrust bearings for the G40? GSF part numbers would be mint if they do!

Cheers

16152 = Crankshaft main bearing shells (YOULL NEED TWO SETS, and use the halves that have oil holes only. you'l then be left with a full set that doesnt have any holes too) cheaper than VW ... again, found this out from the manufacturers. = 2x £121.60 + vat cheaper than vw... definately

16185 = conrod shells £8.75 for set + vat

if youve got it apart, consider replacing the gudgeon pin circlips (vw only) for peace of mind that one wont snap anytime soon & break your engine

16164A = thrust bearing £6.50+vat

can anyone tell me the part number for the metal water pipe that runs along the back of the block on a g40 and also the gasket if it has one

is the pipe held on by 2 bolts? if so -

gasket = * 052 121 091 A (less than £1)

etka lists two rubber rings... only for the push on connections though

n 902 600 01 (36,2x3 - up to vin 80-NW240 000 / 80-MP080 000 / 80-NY170 000)

n 905 197 01 (32x3,55 - from the above vins)

mine was a bolt on pipe, and the gasket is from a mk2 polo - perfect fit.

the pipe is a tricky one

screw on = 030 121 065 D for earlier cars (see above vins)

push on = 030 121 065 Q for later cars...

i know this doesnt make much sence, but neither does etka!

G40 ecu??

there seems to be a couple of different part numbers for the 'py' engine code ecu's. I think it is based on cat models and non cat ones..

030 906 022 B - Electronic control unit

030 906 022 C - Electronic control unit for vehicles with regulated catalyst

030 977 022 TX

if you're replacing your ecu, the part number is written clearly on the top of your existing one...
