So today i decided to check my battery tray for any rot as I was told they suffer from rusting there and luckily it is rot free! I would like to rust protect it and was wondering what people suggest to use? Also I noticed on bits where the paint had peeled off there was like soft stuff above the metal I wondered if anyone knew what it could be?

I've clear wax oiled mine not sure what's best though. Would be interesting to see what others have done

Once I've got mine welded up I'm just going to relocate my battery to the boot.

That will save battery acid eating through the protection I put down and hopefully stop it rusting out again.

Would you fit a bigger battery in the boot?

I don't plan on it. The plastic box I'm going to house it in fits the same 063 battery that the car uses as standard.

I ended up using some battery mat after i had repaired mine. A thin tough foam sheet that's supposed to stop any leaking acid do any damage. Not sure how legit it is though.

It does hold moisture, however the battery tray had six coats of paint, and i pop the battery out and clean the area for a check every year, its still good two years on. The main thing for me was it would stop the paint scratching off when the battery is fitted.

If yours is rust free, i would personally get it really clean then add some layers of decent paint, maybe even underseal it or something.

Hi thanks for the replys and suggestions,I was thinking about giving it a few coats of red oxide primer then some stone chip and finally some underseal unless anyone has any other ideas?
