Hi I am in need of changing the front seats in my mk2f (mk3) what other mk's seat's fit in without much adaptation cheers for any knowledge.

mk1 golf & polo, Mk2 golf and polo, corrado and scirocco, 6n seats do but require a bit of narrowing with a hammer on the sliding legs if I can remember, the runners are a little wide to fit in the mk2 runners.

My friend scrapped his mk2 golf recently, missed out on some seats

Do Mk2 golf seats just bolt in?

I believe mk2 Golf seats do fit straight in but are a little high for a mk3 Polo. On their lowest setting they seem to be higher than a GT or G40 seat.

How about the rears? Golf seats etc straight fit? I'm also looking at new seat possibilities

Mk2 golf seats sit considerably higher in a polo. I put my windscreen through once when I flipped the seat forward. If you get the height adjustable driver seat, you'll just about be comfortable if, like me, you're around 6' tall.

The rears do not go in but I know Eric on here used the material and 're-covered' the standard bench by wrapping It around. Looked good as well

You can take the foams and material from golf seats and put them on polo frames. Quite abut of work. Reuphostering will be around £400 at the least

I can probably live with that to be honest, it would turn the interior right around and 400 quid isnt that much compared to what I need to spend elsehwere such as suspension and engine, may aswell fork out on where i will be sitting the most...hopefully inside it and not underneath it or with a head in the wheel arch lol

That was a low estimate at £400 and was labour only. I'd ring about first before settling on that

Problem is I wouldnt want the front seats to be different to the rears so sciroccos and corrados are a no go, I'm not that into the polo gt seat pattern either, think it looks a bit crap and i wouldnt be able to permanently live with it. i like the mk2 golf grey recaro's but couldnt live with the higher height, unless its just the mounts that sit high and i could make or use some shorter ones. I have a gasless welding kit as well so if its just the mounting points that are a problem on the rears i might beable to sort something out there too.

even more than that really, if it is the only option then ill have to put a bit away and spend a bit more, I'm not going to spend what i plan an spending elsewhere on the car and then just be stuck with a crap interior too lol i think ill have a look at how they fix down and see if i cant make my own seat mounts and mounting points for rears to be fitted aswell, or may be able to weld in genuine mounting points from a used mk2 golf or something

Yeah those are almost perfect mate I will have to keep an eye out for a bench and the fronts that match

..erm.. Gasless migs are naughty, but can get the job done. If you don't mind chopping your seats you can use pretty much anything.

Replacement foams from a passenger seat and cloth from a LHD car is the best answer, i've got a 206cc with a showroom condition driver's seat i got shipped over from France.

I'm a complete novice atm with gasless welding or welding at all but I'm learning, I hear that they can be very good used properly so hopefully I get the hang of it as mk2 golf seats are much nicer and there have been a few good sets at not much money at all pop up. Also not sure where I start for seat foams for polos lol guessing gbay?

i got mk2 elecy recaros in mine. set to the lowest are perrrfect, theres no other seat in existance id put in there place, as for the retrimming.. just teach your self, its do-able, and rear are easier when there a split bench.

How tall are you and are they on standard seat rails/mounts?

Hopefully I will find a good enough set that don't need retrimming but It's always good to learn a new skill , do you have pictures of your recaros in the car?

If you find a golf set you like, you can swap the bottom frames (and hence mounting points) with the polo ones. It's pretty easy tbh

Can they just be simply swapped? I have never inspected how they are attached at all but that would be a much simpler solution

Okay that's good news then, I'm just under six foot so I should be fine, I'm taking it you only fitted the front seats as well?

I wonder if the rear seat mounting points can be removed from the polo rear bench and used with the golf bench even if they are welded to the seat base. I would like to keep the folding capability and I wouldn't like to cut and weld the mounting point that's actually on the shell of the car if that's possible

Yes but I think you may need bases that match the shape of the bottom seat foams. So most polo seats have a roundish foam whilst the

nice golf ones have a squarer shape but some polos like the gt had the square foams. I'm not 100% sure but it's worth bearing in mind. They are pretty simple to swap though. Just needs patience
