Front ABS Sensor wiring 9n

Featured Replies

Wonder if you can assist... Wiring isn't my strong point on modern cars.. I have just replaced the wiring from the front right ABS sensor as the old one was damaged. The wire goes up through the wheelarch and comes out near the wiper motor. Behind the wiper motor is an electrical junction box. I presume the wires terminate here somewhere, but the existing wiring joins the loom just below here, and I can't visually trace the wires back.

From the attached pic you can see the wiring from the ABS sensor joining the loom at th ebottom of the pic.

I don't really want to cut the wires and make a join.... I might be able to find which pin the wire goes back to with my meter, but how do you connect/disconnect wires from this junction box??

I'm good with the mechanical stuff, but not so good with the electrics! If someone could help I'd be very grateful!

First Welcome to the forum.

The front sensors should go direct to the ABS control unit, only the rear sensors come through that bulkhead connector block

Thank you! I'll see if I can trace it back, if not I guess I will have to cut the old one, crimp it, and heat shrink it... It's a pretty wet environment back there behind the wiper motor isn't it?

The sensor wiring should go direct to the ABS control unit nowhere near that bulkhead connector block

What year is the car?

It's a 2008 1.4 tdi. I assumed it went into the connector as I was sure I read it somewhere... Having said that, there is a very generous length of wire supplied with the replacement part.

how does it connect to the abs control box? Do I need to wire it into a plug?

OK you have a 9N3 but that doesn't alter the wiring, the front sensors are wired direct to the ABS control units 38 pin connector, Front Right Black wire to pin 6 & Green wire to pin 18, Front Left Black wire to pin 22 & Brown wire to pin 34

So you can either cut the original wires and splice your new wires to them or get the correct pins/sockets fit them to your new wires and fit them to the ABS connector

That's great! I know what to look for now. Your help is very much appreciated. Will take a look tomorrow! :-)

I decided I was too scared to mess with the abs control unit. Access is not easy to the wiring. Think splicing the wires is the only option. The only place this can sensibly be done is behind the wiper motor.. Not ideal, but it should work!
