I have a 1200w at 8ohm PA driver and a 2000w at 4ohm amp, any risk to either bits of the kit If i was to hook it up?

An (transistor) amplifier rated at 4ohm output will not be overloaded by connecting an 8ohm speaker to it.

This will be quiter with an 8ohm speaker than with a 4ohm.

There are lots of arguments about performance but all irrelevant when its a cheap speaker in a car.

Just in case there are any other OldFarts on here.... the above is only true for modern transistor amplifiers, if you have a valve ('tube' if you can't speak English) amplifier then you should only use a lower imediance load not a higher one.

Try it and see if your happy - there is far too much sh**e spoken about this sort of thing with quotes like "it sounded rubbish in my car" - without any thought for why.

Get a noise you are happy with and F**** the rest of the world if they don't think its accurate or appropriate.

Just a thought - those W figures you have sound less honest than a car phone warehouse salesboy.

Its a P-Audio 1200w rms PA driver And a 'the loudest.com' 2000w amp.. and I'm in the army, but i do have a iphone 16gb 5s if your interested

If its 60% efficent, thats ~170A (about twice what your altenator can supply).

I suppose its 1200w for 3 micro-seconds then 20w for 997 micro-seconds?

If its really is 1200w @ 12v, you could fit a a battery next to the amp (about 5 times the size of the one under the bonnet) and use some copper pipe full of lead to connect the battery to the amp. That could give you almost an hour before needing recharging

A much more realistic

320W RMS into 4ohm at <1% distortion.

80Amp peak current.

82% efficient.

But it's a subwoofer amp with only up to 200 hertz frequency response and probably not the same as their old "2000Watt" amp.
