Is this common whilst i was driving two days ago the drivers side front wishbone pulled away from the front bush leaving the rubber bush still bolted to the car and the wishbone on the floor still attatched to the ball joint, anyone else had this issue

It's certainly not common.

Is there any sign of rust where the metal separates, or does it look like a fatigue crack?

Could be down to a non-genuine replacement, or maybe brought on by the state of our roads.

It would be wise to check that the other side is OK.

A wishbone snapping....

This is unheard of unless the car has had an accident, and if that was the case, the drive shaft would go straight through the gearbox if there was enough force to bend/snap the wishbone.

Do you mean that the rubber is so knackered that the wishbone has pulled out of the bush? This is more likely but deterioration would have had to be very rapid as excessive play in the bush (the actress said to the bishop) is an MOT failure

The centre console bushes aka rear wishbone bushes (front of car) are common to deteriorate on these cars and such you'll experience a loud knocking and your car will drive like pooe. Get them changed and when you do fit either the ibiza cupra r solid bushes (available from darkside developments) or fit some powerflex ones so you never have the problem again

sorted this issue now but thought i would tell you all what the issue was

firstly the wishbone had pulled away from the rubber at the front leaving the rubber bolted in the car and the wishbone on the floor with no rubber in.

The reason I believe it deterioated so quickly was due to the fact i had recently purchased the car and noticed that the "tracking" felt out enough for the steering wheel to be 1/3 a turn off centre so i booked in for tracking, and proceded to go to work in the car as it was booked in the next day.

However when returning from work on the A64 doing 60Mph i felt the centre point on the steering wheel suddenly go to almost half a turn and feel really light, so I immediatatly pulled over to investigate, as i was slowing to a stop at approximatley 5mph it all went wrong. The wheel was pointing out of the wheel arch and locked up. It didnt make a single knocking sound or grating sound until BANG wishbone completly off the car just attachted at the ball joint. The wishbone had hardly any corrosion at all

When I replaced the wishbone and droplink and ball joint the steering went back to the position it originally started in and felt like it used to.

Took it to have the tracking done to discover that the tracking was nearly 2 gauges out BECAUSE it had at somepoint had a bump on that wheel and the steering arm was badly bent to the point it crushed the seals in the steering rack.

I think the bent steering arm had put excessive stress on the wishbone causing this to happen

Now its all repaired I think I had a lucky escape from a very nearly nasty accident where the would most likley have flipped @ 60 Mph. Bearing in mind I had driven the car from where I bought it privatley nearly 200 miles the week before
