I have a set of wheels that I'm looking to fit the the Polo. They are 4 x 4 1/2 spacing with an 80mm centre bore. I have the adapters and spigots to make them fit, but now I'm not sure on how to attach them to the car. Since I don't know the car they came off, I'm not sure where to start. They don't appear to have a radius seat and the taper is quite 'shallow' (not the angle, but the actual depth to which it protrudes into the wheel). I've done a little research and it seems Triumphs and other British cars had wheels with this bolt spacing fitted, but they all used studs. When I look at the pictures of the wheel nuts for these cars however, the taper looks too long/not right.

So my question is, if I hubcentrically mount the wheels, do I need to use the correct nuts/bolts for the wheels or could I use the VW bolts?

Can anyone offer any other suggestions?

I would use bolts with the correct taper, as using the radius ones could mean the bolts work loose or even shear off as the load on the bolt may be more concentrated in 1 area rather than spread over the whole radius seat.

I have also seen VW wheel bolts stretch in the past when they have been tightened right up against a wheel with the wrong seat type.

It seems the adapters I have arent hubcebtric, so I'm going to need the 'proper' nuts.

How many variations are there in the taper, radius etc.?

You could roughly measure the taper using a blob of blue tac or similar pushed in to the hole and an angle finder, in theory?

I could, but as you say it's be a rough guide and only something to guide me towards a 'real' available taper. Without knowing what sort of taper to expect, it's hard to know what I'm looking for. I have however ordered some ford wheel nuts as a starting point
