First Fitting of a radio

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just bought my 5th polo and it's the youngest I have ever bought a 1994 mk2f 1.0 4 speed.

I want to fit a radio as this car has never had one as it didn't come with a radio when new !

My problem is when I connect the new radio up there is nothing happening.

I have checked the radio plus all the buttons and connections but nothing is happening.

The only thing I can think of is the radio points may need to be activated or a fuse added ?

Can someone please advise.

Thanks

Michael

I don't have a wiring diagram for your model, but I seem to remember the radio and cigar lighter being on the same fuse (you may care to check that for yourself)

What have you connected the radio supply connection to?

Also, have you got a good earth connection?

If you don't have a multimeter, you could rig up a 'test light' bulb to check for power to the radio (and also for a good earth connection.)

Regards

Also need to know about this. I've connected 2 cables into the back and it doesnt even turn on

The original wiring is :-

Thin Brown/Red wire is the "S" contact supply (VW's Ignition supply, it's there as long as the key is in the ignition)

From fuse 11 Red/Grey wire joins to a Red wire (thick wire) to the radio Battery Live supply

Green/Brown wire: Speed signal from speedo unit

Grey/Blue wire: backlighting supply

Any Solid Brown wire is the Earth/Ground

Speakers

Front right: Red & Brown/White

Front left : Blue & Brown/Blue

Rear right: Brown/Black & Red/Green

Rear left: Brown/Red & Blue/Green

Is this the same wiring colours for a 6n2 2001 model as I want to change my head unit and last owner cut all the wires and did a really bad job so much so that when I turn the head unit on and adjust the front speakers the rear speaker adjust and when I select the rears the fronts adjust lol also it won't turn off when I remove my keys from the ignition so have to turn power off on head unit NIGHTMARE !!

There are a few differences.

The speed signal is a Blue/White (very thin wire)

There is a diagnostic wire Grey/White

Front Right Red & Brown/Red

Front Left Blue & Brown/Blue

Rear Right Red/Green & Brown/Green

Rear Left Brown/White & Blue/White
