Dash failure

Featured Replies

Another fun one from me!

On my way to work just now I was driving along and suddenly nybdash just stopped working entirely. Click and odometer is still operating, and the indicators flash, but the temp gauge, fuel gauge, Speedo, Revmeter and all my warning lights have just stopped functioning completely. Upon pulling up I turned off the ignition and tried again but nothing. What could have caused this, and is it going to be a simple fix?

Blown fuse #26 ? did the radio stop as well ?

  • Author

Didn't have my faceplate plugged in as I don't live far from work. Don't think it's the fuse though as I've just tried the ignition on my break 4 or so hours later and they came on. So I removed the fuse and it looks fine, tried it again and (predictably) nothing... Plugged the fuse back in and they came on again. So I'm not sure what that could have been? Maybe worth replacing the fuse to be on the safe side? I must have a 5w blade fuse somewhere.

The reason I asked about the radio is, if the "S" contact supply from the ignition switch failed, the radio would also of gone off and that aslo supplies the speedo, but it's not fused

Ah okay, unfortunately I have no way of knowing! :/ if it does again, what would be the first thing to check?

Try giving the ignition key a waggle as the "S" contact supply is there as long as the key is in the ignition

Will do. I imagine I'll find out on my drive home if it's in a rush to repeat itself. I'll plug the radio in too.

Car still drive absolutely fine though!

I'm curious, could an immobilizer fault have caused that? Because this morning I have two faults. Under engine I have;

17978 - Engine Start Blocked By Immobilizer

P1570 - 35 - 10 - Intermittent

And under immobilizer I have ;

01176 - Key

65-10 - Unauthorized - Intermittent

At no point have I noticed the engine failing to start due to the immobilizer. Its sstarted first time every time?

Fuse # 26 is also the supply for the immob unit

Ah, I turned the ignition on with fuse #26 disconnected. Is that where that fault has come from then?

That'll do it, delete the code and don't worry about it :)

Will do! As long as I know what's caused it thats fine. Clocks haven't failed again since so I have no more clue on that! :)

Haha, scare the balls off of you just to remind you who's in charge.

VWs do what they like and nothing they don't like! Lol

This hasn't happened since, so I can firmly believe she was just showing me who's boss.
