Steering Wheel Airbag Light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A few days ago I removed my steering wheel (batt off, unplugged airbag before wheel removal) for a job on the ignition barrel.

When I put everything back together I forgot to plug in the airbag (or it unplugged itself when reassembling). Consequently, I drove the car around after reassembly and the airbag light remained illuminated in the instrument cluster.

So I (unplugged batt and) removed the airbag again (noticed it was unplugged), plugged it back in, reassembled all, and now that I've restarted the car - the airbag light is still on.

So my question is, if I got a copy of VAG-COM VCDS Lite (not full version - free version with £10 ebay hardware jobby), could I clear the airbag warning light from the cluster? Or would I need a full version of VAG-COM? The light is currently causing me on MOT fail.

Appreciate any advice,

Thanks

Depends what year your car is? If its a 6N then you should get away with the lite version & cheap lead, if its newer? You'll need a can/hex lead

Haha I can't believe I'm getting flak for a double post, when my first post got no replies and my second post did! If I hadn't double-posted, I wouldn't have got an answer! I knew I'd get no reply in the Electrical section, yet I post the same question in the Suspension section (my question has nothing to do with Suspension!) and I get an answer! What does that tell us about the forum as an efficient means of providing answers to questions I wonder chaps.

Anyway, thanks Nige. You're right I didn't mention it, but it's a 6N. If there is hope I'll give a copy of Lite a go

I didn't spot your first post :(

Yep on a 6N it should be able to clear the light, and you'll have it for other functions as well :)
