Hi, the cable to my nearsdie ABS sensor was chafing against the wheel, causing a break in the insulation. Water got in and of course my ABS light has come on. I have a new sensor and I went to VW for a new wiring harness, but I am not sure it is right. The two plug-in leads are easy enough but there are four extra single wires - with no connectors, where do they go?

Has anyone any ideas?

Please see attached photos of the ordinary connectors and then of the 5 or so separate wires. Any help gratefully appreciated as I have an MOT in 2 days!

The front sensors are wired direct into the control unit main plug, with no other connector other than the two pin connector onto the sensor. The rear sensors run up to a 9 pin yellow connector on the bulkhead and then direct to the control unit main plug

Hi, thats what I thought, but the cable VW have given me has two connector and six separate wires - I will try and upload a pic again. No I tried again and can't upload the pics, the first is of the normal type connectors you would expect, the second is of 6 strands of wires with no connector on them at all. I think VW have given me the wrong part

Its a 53 reg ASY engine, I can't rememeber if it has wear indicators

The brake pad sensor wiring is only on the front left pads & if rear discs fitted only on the right.

What colour/s are the separate wires ?

there is yellow, grey with black stripe, pink, and a paler pinkish colour

on black lead it says abs/bva and 6q0927903 S

Well the colours didn't help, as the pad wear wires are Red, Yellow, Red/Yellow or Brown/White & the ABS sensor wires are Black, Brown & Green

Well it's very strange, I am going to try and repair with existing parts first and see what the system looks like, thanks for your help

Ok I have fault codes 00668, 00283, 01314 - which I believe all point to NSF. The cable doesn't look nearly as chafed as I remember it, so going to try just changing sensor and tracing wires to compare with the loom VW sold me

00668 battery voltage outside limits (flat/disconnected battery ?)
00283 Front Left sensor problem
01314 Engine ECU No Communication

00283 could be a few things but this will explain ABS Fault Codes.doc

Hi, well I replaced the wheel speed sensor, then looking at the VW cable closely it turned out it was the right one. The four wires can be spliced in at a convenient point - VW give you a good amount so you have options. Cleared the codes with the reader and bob's your uncle ABS light extinguised.

All other likely MOT issues are straight forward.
