1988 VW Polo mk2 "breadvan" very rare Comet dealer special edition.

Due to a change in my income,i can no longer run a car,so am reluctantly putting my lovely Polo on the market.

This is an increasingly rare car,even more so with low miles,no rot and completely UNmodified! The Comet was a limited run of maybe 5-10 cars made by Worcestershire VW dealers Pearson's.

Features include Gloss black paint,Sunhatch sunroof,leather gear knob,coin holder,Panasonic stereo cassette player,stainless door handle trims and unique decals to the flanks and tailgate.These also extend to red striping on the grill,door buffers,bumpers and wheel trims.

Despite much research I have not found another out there.

Condition wise it is as good as you might find without a full restoration.The only rust is to the inner skin of the tailgate below the screen,the rest of the car is fantastic,all the common rust spots are corrosion free.Floors,sills,arches etc all very good.

Interior is excellent,one small nick in the headlining,and original vw carpet mats. Couple of small shallow dents in the bonnet,otherwise all panels are good.Obviously there are stonechips and light scratches that are to be expected on a 27 year old car,I have touched in a few areas with POR-15 where the paint or stonechp had flaked off for protection.

The car had been stored in a garage for 12 yrs from 2002,it being replaced by a newer car.This has certainly helped it survive having been spared 12 winters! I rescued it and went through it front to back,replacing parts which had perished through age,these include:

Cambelt and water pump

Radiator

All fuel and vac hoses

Front shocks

Front and rear brakes

Wiper blades

Plugs,cap and rotor

New Lucas alternator

Carb manifold flange

4 new Falken tyres (original unused Michelin spare in boot)

Halogen headlamp bulbs

Fan belt, Battery Etc etc

It went through its mot and passed first time,no advisories. This runs until September 2015. After a good clean the autochoke carb is working as well as they do,starts straight away with a little throttle. Once warmed up it drives very smoothly and quietly,quite perky,the 4 speed box and clutch are all excellent.

Brakes are fine,though being unservoed need more of a push than a modern car.

Only faults are the tailgate innerskin rust as mentioned,and the rear hatch strut is weak, about £15 online.The Pierburg carb can be a pain,in as much as idle can fluctuate a bit,the choke is working correctly but ultimately a Weber replacement would do it a world of good.

Current mileage is c.54300 miles,and it comes with a fully stamped service book at a VW main dealer up to 48,000,which is when it was took off the road.

I have kept receipts for the parts I have fitted. Comes with original polo mud flaps and period wind deflectors.

Paperwork includes: Haynes manual Owners handbook,service book,radio manual and dealer list in original folder, V5c in my name, Current and old mots ,1988 copies of VW motoring.
