Why do driver side wishbone always need replacing on these 6n's?Seens like every two years I need to do it.

I always get it.

From 0 to slight acceleration you hear the "click"/"knock".

It's like the rubbers worn again on the wishbone introducing play.

Again when slowing down to really slow speed to that point of "stop" you hear it again.

VW priced up 66 pound for a wishbone. Anyone know any cheaper?

Also the VW guy talked about CV joints etc and those were crazy money.

Is it most likely to be the wishbone as the symptoms seem same ?

Does it stop when you press the brake ? Mine has a clicking noise at lowish speeds.

CV joint noises can usually be heard on full lock slow speed turns. Like a rotational clicking.

But if you are just hearing the one click or knock on acceleration then it does point more to a worn bush.

If the new wishbone from VW comes with the two bushes and ball joint attached then that isn't too bad for a dealer item. Otherwise try the likes of ECP or GSF. I was £30 a side the last time I bought 6n wishbones from a motor factors.

Just gone and bought delphi wishbone. Looks like it is the complete part with the bushes in.

And yeah it is not a rotational click.

its one knock sound on acc or de-acc. like a backward and forward movement.

AVS car parts do a Febi TCA for £29.88.

I'll be honest, I've gone off Febi after some drop links perished after only 8 months! I've had good experience with Delphi parts.

I got the delphi one from ebay with ball joint. very quick delivery.

are they easy to replace. what do you have too look out for?

is it the ball joint tightening that affects the angle of the wheel?

hold the wheel in position when tightening that?

I would give all the bolts a good going over of Plus Gas a day before you attempt the job as they will be tight and probably well corroded.

As long as the 2 bolts underneath come out and you can free the ball joint from the hub carrier then the old wishbone should drop out easy enough. The the new one is easy enough to put in.

The ball joint does effect camber so might be worth getting the alignment checked after.

So when you loosen the ball joint do you just hold up the wheel to what ever angle you want and tighten it?

I'm going to use normal jack and then put some wooden pallets under the side skirt. That's safe enough for doing wishbone?

Just the far bolt which is awkward I suppose.
