Hi guys n gals, i was wondering if any one had used laminate flooring underlay as a sub for dynamate.

Sound proofing is almost impossible regardless of vehicle, material or deap pockets.

Sound deadening on the other hand is very do able.

When you say flooring under lay, do you mean the solid type? Or is it a fabric like material?

Either way the only substitute for dynamat is something that is similar in design. I have used dynamat in the past and it's very expensive and didn't make much difference because I used it wrong.

I am currently having a go at this on my 6n and doing it better then before. I am using aluminium backed flashing board tape, this is bitumen butyl type material with a aluminium backing. I have done the entire bulkhead and front floor so far and tbh this is the main source of road and engine noise but is usually not done by most because it involves taking the dash out and everything between it and the bulkhead. The rest of the interior is a walk in the park.

Over this if you were really seriously trying to get rolls Royce levels of deadening you could use closed cell neoprene sheets and or the fibre type material they fitted at the factory. I went with the factory stuff but instead I glued it down meaning it's now part of the bulkhead as apposed to just resting on it.

I attached a picture of the finished result of the flashing tape- that's 20 meters worth and cost me £18 plus vat so £80-90 would do the rest of it I think. I doubt the underlay is that much cheaper really.

£80 worth of dynamat would have covered the area I just did and maybe a bit of the rear footwell so really not bad at all.
