1991 mk2f 1.3mpi (NZ code) coupe - spent £1237+ on parts alone!

Featured Replies

1991 1.3cl MPI (NZ code engine), 4 speed, MOT

So, a sad sad day, i've spent so long getting this ready (my build thread went on for ages, November 2014 to now!) .

Basically i've realised that using a 1991 polo for a family daily driver just isnt gonna work out. I've only had her taxed and insured on the road for 1 week!, but already its becoming apparent that i was trying to re-live my youth, and unfortunately with a family now that doesnt work out.

I'm truly gutted to be doing this, as i've just totted up the bills (that i can remember anyway), and i've spent over £1237 on parts alone!!! thats without the car (£1437.50 with car), and i'm sure i've forgotten some stuff......

so the time has come to cut my losses, admit to my wife that i've cocked up massively, and give someone an absolute bargain! :-(

Although there is surface rust on the car, i will supply two brand new pattern wings, and all the primer/paint (the correct alpine white)/laquer to finish this. the underneath is solid, with a new tank fitted not long ago, along with new dissy, so no worries there.

i've got a shifter repair kit (as i wanted to tighten this up a bit), but haven't fitted it yet.

its had new 4 branch manifold, suspension, ARB blocks, new tyres/BBS ra's 14", within the last month.

Heres the list of what's been done over the last 2 months :-

BBS RA"14 £120

ARB block £50
GT clocks £15
Gt steering wheel £15
Clear indicators £13

Maxtor Bluetooth stereo £30
TA Technix 60/40 kit £97

New top mounts £15
Kurust, P38, Amber bulbs £8.5
40mm wheel bolts £16
G40 seats £50
Maxxis 185/50/14 £215
Jetex exhaust £70
Stainless manifold £109

Fitting of manifold £197
White dials/invertor £50

Alpine speakers £20

Thermostat £9

Gearshift repair kit £8

Wiper motor £18

wiper relay £16

New exhaust rubbers £3

2x Wings £68 (eurocarparts)

Temp sensors (blue and black) £25

TOTAL SPEND = £1237.50
WITH CAR = £1437.50

I really dont wanna sell this, but need something more family freindly, and family now comes first (did i just say that! )

Just wanna make my money back on parts alone really,so no sensible offer refused. Want this to go to a good home, where someone can do the wings etc and has the time to use her.

sad days, but has to be done really.........

PM me if your seriously interested.

located in Ipswich Suffolk.

Glws - looks spot on.

wouldn't exactly say spot on, but could easily be an awesome car for someone, all new parts on it and all the dreaded stuff like fueltank have been replaced, so just a tidy up really (surface rust to treat and new wings included to fit).

So sad this is happening, is storage no option so you can come back to it? Or a family member? I'm sure you will sell it with everything you have for it easily enough if you have no option

Thanks mate. Now sold and gone to new home in Nottingham. Also went to its first ever show today I think! :-)

No worries mate, saw the guy asking about it on the Facebook page and figured I'd show him your way. :)

Glad she's gone to a new home! Shame she had to go at all though.
