Hi folks

Have been spending a lot of time under my 6N2 trying to debug oil leaks. Came across 2 interesting things:

1) Under the brake boost cylinder there is a channel that seems to carry cables from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. I noticed a corner of a plastic bag peaking out and anxiously removed it - not sure if Mr Plod would impound the car even though it was not my stash. Turns out rather than heroin or cannabis it contained a foam sponge - presumably for sound blocking. Anyone know a part number for a replacement? Or should I just cook my own? (The one I removed the bag is ripped and the sponge pretty perished.)

2) Noticed my auxilliary belt was looking pretty perished so fitted a new one. Behind the wheel arch liner was a lovely stash of what seemed to be pretty good compost! My guess about 1Kg. Took the attached pics from the nearside wheel. Interestingly my daughter's 6N1 has done about half the miles mine has and had about half the stash.

Upload the pictures to the likes of Photobucket, Flikr etc then copy the IMG codes for each picture and paste them into the reply box here, it's easier to do this with the Chrome browser but it's possible with IE, you need to first click the light switch icon in the top left corner of the reply box, then you can paste the codes in as normal

I did the same thing a while back when I first took the engine out, and literally thought the same thing... Had a huge smile on my face and everything, was a big let down to be honest :)

The tubes going down the channel are the 3 fuel lines, 1 is pressurised feed, 1 is return and the other is the breather that goes to the charcoal canister via the purge valve. I guess the bag is to stop any rattles as they can move around a bit. The channel follows the same shade to under the car where the pipes come out from so this is also used a drain from engine bay, the other side doesn't have the channel.

I guess leave the bag out and use the car, if it's rattle then shove whatever is left down there, or some sponge or foam etc.

The inner arches tend to fill up like that, I guess mainly from road dirt swept up from the bumper, but this is also where the water that drains from the scuttle area ends up so leaves etc would also make there way down.

It's not a bad idea to clean these (Drain holes) out because if both sides are blocked then water will pool up and eventually enter the heater box and the cabin taking out the heater resistor too.

If you get both parts of the trim off (have to remove both wipers) then poke the dirt through and use a hose to rinse the whole area down and make sure it all goes out the drain holes.

So this is why my passenger wing is full of water... XD
