polo 6n2 steering heavy and noise

Featured Replies

Hi I've just bought a polo 6n2 1.4 8v 2001, the steering is nice and light when driving but when I am parking it is extremely stiff and heavy also when turning steering wheel it is making a rubbing/scraping noise as if there's a bit of plastic rubbing any ideas on these issues? Thanks

Checked your power steering fluid? Mine went like this, turned out it was a leak on the fluid supply and return unions.

No I haven't but I will today, was it a big job to fix? Thanks

luckilly no. I was low on steering fluid and noticed the leak, my brother suggested using a power steering stop leak from wynns.
Filled the power steering up to the max line and its been fine since.

Would u notice the leak straight away by looking under bonnet etc? Also any idea what type of power steering fluid it takes?

That depends on if there is a leak and how bad it is. I found the leak on the unions, these can be found in the middle of the steering rack.
If you look from the battery side of the bay and down towards the middle of the firewall at the bottom, you should see two pipes connecting to the rack, this is where my leak was.
Use a torch to help you see.
