Ambitions

Featured Replies

So as I eluded to in previous posts...

I get my Mk2f Coupe Saturday... And beyond getting it set up properly and the odd mod' here and there. I wondered what other owners ambitions were?

To go to a certain show?

Race? If so what kind Of race?

Travel? ( like Marks example ) Where and why?

Personally I want to take the Coupe to Germany for the factory tour... Visit the 'Ring... Then go to Turin.. Before coming back via Le Mans and or Monaco...

My ambition is to have it on the road before the polo show. I plan on traveling to the show from Dundee and after that my friend and I are going to head down to Lands End. From there I want to go to J

Yeah mine is now to do lots of Travel with her. The last road trip just showed how good she was covering long distances. However that was never the first one. It started out that I wanted to build a track car which to me is what she was at the beginning. Even during the rebuild I was going to build a stripped out track car with a cage and all the gubbins.

However half way though I realised I would be using her a lot more on the road, heading to shows and and weekends away so it was decided that the interior and everything would stay. Which I've very happy about. :)

So the next trip you know about.. the one after that she will being packed up in a container and shipped 5,000 miles to the good old US of A :)

Hi & Welcome,

Mine is just to complete my polo and get it back on the road :)

Short term I want to have my Polo GT built back up and ready for the Polo Social. Hopefully get enough testing done on it before and after then to get it set up so it survives the track day in July.

After that the plan is just to enjoy the car, maybe do the odd track day here and there.

Also want to start work on the mk2, sort out the bodywork and drop my other G40 lump into it.

Long term once both cars are done and sorted I'd love to start doing long road trips with either of them.

For me the Polo was always about having something a bit Retro that I could learn a few car mechanic things on. Bit of a project.

I've had a lot of mx5's as second cars in the past and spent lots of money with other people doing a the non simple stuff and wanted to get my hands dirty on an old car that I cant mess up too much but at the same time develop some experience.

Driving wise, the odd show and knock around a bit in it occasionally when I fancy.

I have three other cars not including my wife's, so its easy to keep the usage on plan.

mine is to finish the power upgrades and dyno it an see what I can get out of an AAV block

Put all my polo together...its a story of sandwhich bags filled with fixings labelled for where they belong and everything in the shed and in the back that belongs on the car.

after paint and all my issues with suspension and fixing a fan fault. get it an M.O.T in august and make it to next years social. Thats providing i can afford to keep it on the road as it will have to be un-sorned too when I move back up newcastle. could be that renting a garage is the only viable option till my money goes up.

been in a very similar position and wondered if it was worth keeping the car on, keeping it was the best thing i did

Full tartan warrior!!

Redoing my whole interior in maclachlan tartan and black vinyl, will take a while

I want to pull up next to a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Bugatti Veyron, and have my Polo get all the attention. Whatever it takes :D

Plastic spinners is definitely the way to go then!

My ambition is to have it on the road before the polo show. I plan on traveling to the show from Dundee and after that my friend and I are going to head down to Lands End. From there I want to go to John O Groats and then back down to Dundee. The most Southern and most Northern parts of the UK aren't far from those points either so I'll visit them too. The year after I would like to do the most Eastern and most Western points of the UK after the Polo Show.

The whole point of buying the polo was just to give me something to play around with during the summer holidays. Hopefully it stays reliable enough to see me through!

Lands End and the Lizard (most southerly point) are so close to me that I think nothing of them. Can get to either in about 20 minutes.

John O' Groats is only half an hour away from Dunnet Head (the most northern point) so it makes sense to do all four.

My ambition would be to drive my turbo carbed mk3 upto the polo social 😂 it's been pretty reliable so far fingers crossed.

Yeah the Lizard and Land's End are maybe a little further apart than that. Easily doable inside an hour I'd imagine! :P

Would be quite the thing to say though, been to all four points.

Furthest east is lowestoft i believe

And furthest west is Ardnamuchan lighthouse. That's next years plan. If anyone fancies a road trip after the polo show next year then they're more than welcome to tag along.

I would be tempted if I remember nearer the time. Would be good to book time off and do a mini tour of Scotland, it seems like there are some beautiful places up there.
