Engine steady 6n/2

Featured Replies

hi,

I'm having problems with the engine / gear linkage steady on my 6n.

I was really struggling to fit the lower mount to the gear box, it was not lining up I even had 2 people trying to move the engine while was under trying to fit.

I tried 2 used lower mounts and figured they are tWished so bought a new one and it's the same.

I then realised the steady arm was holding the block too far forward.

There are 2 10mm bolts holding a bracket on which has adjustment but this was already loose and all the way back. I cannot fit the steady back on.

Is there a special way of doing it?

I was thinking I could either take the bracket off and make the adjustment hole larger, or just cut the arm off. I imagine vw put it there for a reason so I would like to avoid removing it if possible.

Any suggestions?

Tried again today and got no where so I left it well alone before I got the grinder out.

I had a thought, is there any difference between 8v and 16v engines regarding this steady? I doubt it as the blocks are the same but it slide on super easy with the 8v engine. I was thinking maybe the mounts held the engine at a slightly different angle?
