Actual fault: break in solenoid wire

Yep, pissed off, expensive way to learn a lesson I thought I'd learnt years ago.

I think we've all been down that route :(

Bummer. No return possible on the starter?

If you have unlimited time and all the tools needed (or can borrow them)

1) compare against known working item,

2) replace the cheapest (sub-)component first. For example the brushes or bearings in an alternator.

Repeat until fixed.

Some thought needs to be applied otherwise you can replace your whole car piece by piece.

Nah, was an exchange, so my perfectly good one's gone off to be painted black and sold to someone else.

I got a can of decent black spray paint to feed my addiction whilst collecting said starter motor so i class it as WIN lol
