You just look by eye for the string lying evenly across the side wall on the back and front of the tyre. Or the rim if you've got stretch.

Note - doesn't work with staggered wheels, or on cars with unequal track front and rear (mk3 fiesta, reliant robin).

Reason I asked as a certain degree toe is needed but I will probably go and get them alligned when it comes to it, just need a temp fix first

As far as I know, Mk1-2f are aligned dead straight with quite a big margin for error. I've had well under 1 degree of error with a bit of string.

wow sounds good man but driving and whipping the steering wheel off while driving sounds mental lol ..

You can do it stationery, I do it just crawling along a flat surface on the clutch as the steering will be naturally centred.

I see shall try it out next week and report back...

As far as I know kwikfit use hunter rigs and I've never really had an issue using one on a lowered car, especially the latest style heads they're awesome.

It's not all about toe though, other things like caster and camber will compensate, and setting the front parallel is fine but if the rears out the car will drive on the piss, unless you correct the wheel...

Isn't really the right way to go about things but should get you closer anyway.

Remember to use flat and level ground, and roll the car back and forth a car length before you even start to measure to take any preload etc out of the bushes/tyres/springs and so on.

Well that's messed up my plans then my drive is far from level ..

It's good enough to get someone to a place to get tracking done. Especially after a suspension and steering component swap and everything's off by a mile lol
