TV and radio presenter Chris Evans will be the new Top Gear presenter, the BBC has announced.

Evans said he was "thrilled" to get the job as the show was his "favourite programme of all time".

"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," he added.

He will replace Jeremy Clarkson, who was sacked after punching a producer while on location.

Next we'll hear Guy Martin has joined with Jodie Kidd.

On the plus side, it'll probably get him off Radio 2 in the morning.

I think Guy Martin would get bored too easy to do it, although he's retiring from road racing, he's said he's wanting to do some more challenge type stuff and MTB's.

That and he seems happy mending lorries.

i hope it means clarkson and co. get a decent deal with someone like Netflix and get back to their old self. Top Gear was brilliant in the early days before the BBC started ruining it. (i know its always been on the bbc)

Evans is a prat, but at least he loves cars. As said above, I think Martin would do a series and quit. I've met him a few times and he hates the limelight at the 'celebrity' factor so I can't see why he would want to do it.

I pray Jodie Kidd doesn't get the job. If anyone has seen her on the Classic Car Show on Channel 4, they'd understand. She's awful. If it has to be a bird presenting it then get Vicki Butler Henderson. She's a proven presenter, and we know she can handle a car.

I tried the Vicki and Edd China route a couple months back and made it trend on twitter. However, Edd made it clear he wouldn't and Vicki just had a go at a guy who commented about her lol. And no response from Tiff :(

Evans I can handle, Guy Martin I can't stand. For starters, he's a bike man primarily and TG isn't a bikers show.

Jodie Kidd would be an insult.

They've said that one presenter will be female, which I don't have an issue with the principle of, but the TG specials (like the Africa special) were built on the comradeship/laddishness/bro-y-ness/banter between the 3 blokes - you just cannot and will not have that with two blokes and a woman.
