My pads dont seem that worn, but something is wrong with the front left - its making a terrible racket all the time and I think the vented disc is badly warped.

As its a mk2 any improvement in the brakes is very much appreciated, so I thought id renew.

Are there any great pad and disc combos people can recommend?

239mm vented and great pads for spirited road driving -no track.

I have been doing searches, but nothing is coming up with what I'm after.

Are you missing the anti squeal thingys? Any chance you could have got some contaminants on the disc or pads?

As for recommendations DS2500 are good but not really cheap and standard discs. You running VW11 setup?

I definitely think there is a good chance of contaminants on the discs.

I sort of abandoned them to the garage floor for a while, only to have to go back to them.

As soon as my neighbours building work stops this week, ill be jacking up, as it needs checking over before I can drive to polo social.

Yep - VW11's as I couldnt get my Vauxhall set up to work with the standard master cylinder.

Now thinking late summer I'm going to adapt a mk1 golf off set servo.

When you say standard discs, do you mean just any discs then, like brembo ferodo etc ort going to a dealer?

I'll put in my two penneth here, I have 239mm Venteds on my polo I recently replaced the discs and pads with pagid parts and my experience isn't great.

The disks have warped, they warped 2 weeks after installation, the first time they got really warm. When they are cold they arent too noticeable but when warm they really do vibrate hard under braking, they also dont "vent" too well 10 minutes of balls to the wall driving will easily cook them. I have BBS solitudes as wheels so there is ample airspace around the discs for cooling but doesnt really seem to have any effect, apart from my next point.

The Pads are generally good, nice and quiet, slightly dull bite but these are just normal road pads, which would contradict the point that they are dusty as hell, they must be made of a really soft material!

I would recommend avoiding Pagids road lineup, they do offer a more performance option I do beleive, but their road option does not instill any confidence in them to warrant trying the performance option.

I had grooved BremboMax discs and EBC Greenstuff pads which were great until a wheel bearing wore out.

I think I'm now running Eicher Premium disks and ATE pads. they are a bit quieter - grip just as well - but much less dusty.

Only grooved discs I can find now are from MTEC and I've not yet tried them.

Stay clear of pagid mate, I'm running 302mm vented and 295 solid on the rear with pagid pads on my Volvo 850, the dust is horrendous, the brake fade from slowing down OFF A MOTORWAY is damn right scary, especially in a 2 ton tank, and the noise from them poodling around town draws looks from everyone, they scream their nuts off.

Would never recommend them to anyone!!

That's a bit of a bummer. Need to fit them before the social cos I don't have the time or money to get a new set >< might try and do a return and hope I get the refund in time. I get paid on the day I travel up. >< equally can't drive 300 miles on scored and squealing discs.:/

Sorry to Jack the the thread, but how about Bosch discs and textar pads? They're solid discs though, the pagid ones are vented but I'd heard bad things? Need to either get the Bosch/Textar tomorrow morning and process a refund, or fit the Pagid ones. Otherwise I'll be driving to the social on squeaky, scored discs.

Either or mate, I can say textar were good on my mk2 golf :)

And back to the main theme,

Have a peak on demontweeks for some fast road brakes and then Google what they have to see if you can get them cheaper, I'm sure I remember them having something decent on there

Don't think I've still got my invoice so I doubt I can refund them. Not to mention it was from carparts4less and while they seem to be owned by ecp, I doubt they give me the refund in the ecp branch :p

Discs wont be the cause for squealing, it will be the pads.
Make sure the metal seat things are in and also make sure they are well greased.

Just fitted Brembo Max discs and Ferodo DS2500 (all be it, to a clio) and they are EXTREMELY good, the warmer they get, the better they get. Not had fade out of them once, they just get better haha.
They are currently squealing to shit, but I know its because I just need to grease them up more.

I had Brembo Max discs and pagid pads on my polo before, weren't ever amazing, but I never managed to warp them. Better pads would have made a world of difference.
