M1 Weekend, when is best to avoid traffic?

Featured Replies

So I am spending this weekend in Leicester. I am driving after work today (from Hertfordshire) and plan to drive back from Leicester on Monday morning to arrive for work at 8.30am.

Does anybody drive this route regularly and know what is the best time to leave to miss all the heavy traffic. I'm in a mk2 and don't want a lot of stopping and starting as to avoid an overheating situation. What time should I start my journey on Monday?

I know this is probably a really noob thing to ask however I really don't leave North London very much.

Cheers!!

I find city driving heats up the car more than cruising on the motorway - and if there's an accident or roadworks ahead you can turn off the engine and fan should still operate, but yeah, start/stop queueing is not great.

You could try google maps and plan your route and choose Show traffic and pick a departure time.

Do you know what's causing the overheat?

Possibles are - pump impeller damage, radiator blocked, radiator fins damaged, insufficient coolant, cooling system not closed, insufficient antifreeze to water concentration.

Are you carrying spare water/radleak/hoseclips?

Do you have breakdown cover?
