Sam's blue polo cl coupe

Featured Replies

Welcome to my build thread of my new (to me) polo coupe that I purchased to replace my old mk1 fiesta that I sold a few months ago

d728c3765e34c54c1e798f5a608be130.jpg

Now for the polo :)

Model: 1992 Polo coupe cl

Engine: Standard 1293 with 33k miles

Suspension: technix coilovers with maxrpm arb blocks

Brakes: Standard Brakes

Wheels and Tyres: Standard 13" steels sporting standard hub caps

Exterior Styling: All standard on the outside

Interior Styling: All standard on the inside

ICE and Security: pioneer x8700dab cd player, 3.5" jbl GX302 speakers, 4x6 jbl GX642 speakers, vibe 10" active sub.

Comments:

Here is my polo coupe cl, I purchased it today after viewing it and finding it very clean example. The car has been in the same town all its life and was owned by an old lady that gave up driving. It has a genuine 33k miles on the clock and I have full service history to back it up. Was just mot'd before I took ownership of it so time to use and enjoy it.

Got a few plans including getting it lower, nice ats classics, and cleaning up some of the rough parts. Also nice audio is a must but just going to take things as they come but anyway time for a few pictures :)

This is when we picked it up.

And once we got it home, really enjoyed every minute of the 50 mile drive home.

More to follow but won't stay standard for long ;)

It's been serviced every year at vw in Dunfermline and it's runs as sweet as a nut so I'm more than happy with the condition of the engine.

I was at the classic car show in moffat today with our classic mini and bought some black carpet for the boot to sit on top of the standard plastic carpet that's in there.

Also went via halfords on the way home for for a new radio and ended up trading in an old radio I had kicking about for 20% off my new one.

Ended up getting this

Decided to fit the cd player but had a problem with the switched live (brown with red tracer) not working so will tackle it another day and take a switched live of the heater..

Old one out but no new one yet.

Decided to leave the radio for the weekend when I have more time to fitted the original back in.

But I did pick up a set of staggered ats classics that are currently stuck in the boot :D

Well bad news on the coilovers...

There has been a mix up and they won't be with me till next week so my plan to have them and the wheels fitted on Saturday has gone out the window :(

I did however get g40 clocks that arrived today and got them fitted right away..

Just need to try and figure out how to sort the millage on them to match the old clocks.

what was the mix up on the coilovers

I got a tracking number for ups on Monday and it still says they haven't received the package yet so dropped the seller an email and all I was told is that something went totally wrong in their logistics but have sent out another set today via next day delivery so there may be a chance I get them tomorrow but on a plus side they offered a partial refund but wait to see how much is partial.

Well tonight I decided to spend some time tracing the ignition live wore from the radio as it wasn't working. Traced it to the ignition swith and after stripping steering cowl off it turns out it's the switch that is missing the pin so ended up removing the cable from its place on the ignition switch plug and attached it to the black with yellow tracer and all works as should so have a nice cd player now :D

After fitting the cd player I wanted some better sound as the passenger speaker is making a rattling noise so I have ordered some Pioneer TS-A878 3.5" speakers to replace the 2 speakers in the dash. I will get speakers for the parcel shelf supports shortly once I get sizes for them.

I have just picked up a used vibe active sub to ad to the system and I just got my wiring loom delivered too..

And it's fitted.. works nicely but turned right down until I get better speakers fitted..

I did however pop to halfords to get a vibe quick plug so it can be removed easily when needed..

And it all fitted :)

Although came without the adjustment spanner so will need to chase that.

Will get new wheel bearings and top mounts before fitting them to the car but not sure when I will have time as I planed on fitting them last weekend..

Also got my arb blocks from Germany with a free mini bag of haribo bears :)

Well after not getting the pioneers I wanted, I ordered jbl Gx302 and Gx642 instead.

I have also ordered new wheel bearings and top mounts to fit with the coilovers so if it all arrives for the weekend I will be one busy man as I have booked it into its first show at the Scottish car show on the 19th of this month.

Speakers are here :D about time as the rattling speakers are really doing my head in.

Also got adaptors so no cutting wires and just plug and play.

The difference compared to the standard speakers..

And got them fitted..

Grills back on and they sound really good and have a strong sound for 3.5" speakers.

Also decided to fit the rears but need to get them wired up as the polo hasn't been wired for rear speakers.

e119c04c763e9660685e077358de9a5b.jpg

Had them wound right down but was a little too low and was still sitting on the jack

c77dbc11987ee0e964256845c4fbb077.jpg

Not many pictures of the front but got them fitted with the new bearing and top mount then fitted the arb block that were a pain..

But how it sits now..

db95ba5edb4463a6b65beda99c8da23f.jpg

Front needs to come down a little but will judge that when the ats classics are on.

Also fitted the bonnet struts and these are a great addition for the price..

Off again tomorrow so will get the ats classics fitted then adjust the hight to suit and then get the tracking done.

Lots to do so little time :(

Glad them coilies are on and the struts look good too

Is your car medium blue? Same as mine? Paint looks pretty good there too

I'm glad i got them on but was alot of work but will be worth it.. :D

Think the colour of it is steel blue (LB5T)

Got another thing through the post, a usb and aux box to fit in the glovebox to connect to the headunit to connect my ipod

8b11351a56dcd2725d9505442bf12961.jpg

Have you driven on the coilovers to see what they're like? Oh yeah steel blue is very similar, medium blue is LA5T.

I have only driven a few miles and so far I noticed is they are alot stiffer than standard and a little bouncy on bumpy roads but apart from that the feel good,

I just got the ats classics fitted and back rub badly and don't want to raise the car anymore so will need to buy or borrow a wheel arch roller and maybe some camber shims but will get there!! :(

bd71c8b997f8f4361cdb84276e8abe15.jpg

Also got the usb/aux box fitted in the glove box and also wired up the rear speakers so happy with the audio side of things..

Does your bonnet look closed with them struts fitted of does it now stick up a bit ?

As I have the same ones on mine and they make the bonnet look open. They was already fitted to the car when I bought it
