Mk2F GT Front Brake Upgrade - What will fit?

Featured Replies

Looking for bigger brakes to put on the front of my GT. I have 14" G60 winter wheels on, without spacers. I will put spacers on if need be.

Looked at putting G40 brakes on, but because the footprint is the same, the only benefit gained is the vented system, which won't really make them feel any different.

So... Do I have any other options that have been done before?

Or does anyone know of something that will fit?

Thanks

Ash

256 discs with vauxhall calipers , no doubt theres a how to somewhere on here

Have you tried G40 brakes?

They do make a difference compared to the standard solid discs. I find they are much harder to lock up and also take a lot more abuse compared to the standard discs that seem to warp for fun.

Worth investing - if you haven't already done so - in some new brake lines (braided is best) and replacing the rear drums. You'll be surprised how much of a difference that makes to the way they feel.

Then get a set of G40 front brakes with good pads and discs. This doesn't mean performance stuff, just good quality replacements. Vented brakes are worth having, and a cheap upgrade. Plenty on a GT, too.

They don't have to be G40 brakes specifically. The 239mm vented brakes came on plenty of VW's. You can spot them in a scrapyard as they're stamped "VW II".

And yes, they make a difference on a little polo as it takes away the heat fade and the habit of warping discs.

It's also worth looking into the passat master cylinder upgrade, as it really improves pedal feel.
