If it's a 6N2? there isn't a bleed screw, are you sure the thermostat is opening? check the temp of both the fat hoses going to the thermostat block, and see if the two heater hoses at the back are the same temp.

The heater flap is part of the heater unit, when did you last replace the cabin/pollen filter?

Yeah its 6n2, i replaced the pollen filter not long ago, do i just get a temp gun on the rad pipes

You could get hi-tech and use a temp gun on the pipes, but I find a Mk1 hand/fingers works just as well :)

Ok so what am I looking for, both the same or what

  • Author

We're do the pipes I need go

The radiator hoses are 2" diameter and come from the radiator to the end of the cylinder head where they fit onto the thermostat housing, then at the rear of the stat housing you'll see the two 1" pipes running to the bulkhead, with the engine upto full temp all the pipes should be the same temp

Just cheacked and they both seem the same, its a pain cus in the rain all my windows steam up

You shouldn't really need heat to demist the windscreen, a good blast of cold air should do that. This, together with your comment about 'warm' cold air, just makes me wonder if there is some obstruction or the flaps aren't working - Does the distribution control feel to 'do something' when you move the control?

Yeah seams to do somthing, i wouldent mind if it was cold air but its not its like warmish cold air even with aircon

It could be the fresh air/ recirc flap motor isn't working and it's stuck in recirc mode? check fuse # 26

  • Author

Will do

  • Author

Done the fuse not sure if it was blown or not as i swapped it with 27 wich i then found was my clocks and has turn my air bag light on,

Its still the same luke warm on both hot and cold even with air con

  • Author

Its the coldest its ever been on hot without the engine running if that means anything, and when you first turn it on it smells abit off eggs

The clue might be in the pong!!

It is possible that the evaporator is coated in something nasty - might be worth cleaning/disinfecting it.

Out of curiosity, does the aircon clutch engage when you switch it on?

The air con engages and works, i had it regasses a few months ago,

Were is the evaporator but cleaning it wont make it produce hot or cold air tho,

Ok as you've got AC ( missed that in post #10) puts a new twist on it! get it connected to VCDS and you can function test all the flap/motors

Whats that just diagnostic

Yes it's the VW diagnostics, used to be called Vagcom you won't be able to do it with a generic OBD reader system

Well took the centre console out yesterday to have a look and make sure it isn't something stupid and it was!!

The cable had somehow jumped of! Put it back on and it works a treat.one thing I don't get tho is I put the cable in the only way possable but it won't go all the way to hot it springs back abit, still gets hot tho.

Also my cold air seams abit warm,it's always been like it for some reason is that normal
