My mind is split and not sure what tyres to get. I have a 2f coupe lowered 60/40, i need some new tyres as my 165/65 are lethal and look crap. I have a set of 14" 6j rims but not sure whether to get 185 50 Yoko a539 or 165 55 nankangs. Yokos are nearly twice the cost but maybe the 165's will be too narrow?

185/50/14 Yoko A539 are awesome tyres. Pay the extra, you'll notice the difference!

Plus that size is perfect for a Polo.

I have been going through the search function today and was rather hoping you would comment :-) you seem to be the man in the know. Would i be ok with the offset or would i need spacers. Long story short, i once had 185 50 on the front on teardrops, they were fine but 185 55 on back and they rubbed the spring cup. I never tried the 50s on the back though.

You may need spacers. Remember, the tyre will be closer to the suspension whilst cornering, as it moves across like a speaker cone.

I agree spacers may be required, with ET45 and a 6inch wheel they will be a fair bit further in the arch as standard.

You'd easy get away with a 25mm spacer on the back and might be worth trying out a small spacer up front.

I could yes but i like these, i have tear drops but are a bit rough and let the car down. Basically i know i can get away with 165 55 but was just wondering if i could fit 185 50 with no arch work with maybe the aid of spacers

There are 175/50's too, Seicento Abarth size.
