Hi,

I'm currently sanding my front chrome VW badge, then spraying it gold. Its taking a long time to sand and I'm using grade 40 sand paper.

Is this usual for chrome?
And do I have to remove all the chrome before I prime it?

Right lol 40 grade is far to gritty try going up in the grades then use an acid Etch primer ( no need to sand it so much then) and a few coats of gold then a few coats of clear, giving time between each coat and 24 hours to harden after :)

Alright I'll give that a go, I'm currently using aluminium oxide, so would you say something like a 120 wet & dry would be more suitable?

If you use acid etch primer you don't need to sand it a lot only to give it a key the acid helps, I'd use 120 then 400 an maybe 600 just to make sure thiers no scratches then paint it.

As you said you've sanded it, which you don't need to sand it heavily just make sure it's free of dust and grease ect

You only need to give the paint a key to adhere to. There's no need to take the paint off.

after a sand with 40grit, its down to plastic surely?
