Key fob problem

Featured Replies

Hello people,

I have a Polo Twist 1.4 05 plate. Recently the key fob randomly stopped working so now I have to manually unlock and lock the car with the key. The button still flashes when I attempt to use the fob so the battery is fine.

Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

First Welcome to the forum,

You can try this, remove the battery from the remote, press one of the buttons once, refit the battery, this will make the remote think it has a new battery and re-sync it to the car, if this doesn't work you'll need VCDS diagnostics to re-sync the key to the car:(

As nige said above really.

To sync the key manually, you need to have 2 keys. 1 key needs to be in the ignition, the other in the drivers door lock. Window needs to be down. Turn ignition on and then turn the key in the door to lock, and press lock on the remote at the same time. There should either be a beep, indicator flash or some kind of prompt to let you know it has learned the remote.

Ignition off, keys out then test.

Tried both methods, still no luck. When I push the key fob buttons I can hear something click inside the dashboard somewhere near the ignition. It clicks four times I think, or twice.

Do the indicators flash when you press the buttons? I'm sure the little relays inside the receiver box (clicking sound) are for the indicators.

Has the key fob been through the washing machine by any chance? The one for our golf went in once, didn't work and did strange things, then went through again (both times where total accidents) and it worked fine with a new battery.

Not saying stick it in the wash, that was a pure flook but it deffinatly started playing up after that.

They don't mate. I've also noticed that my boot has started playing up, it works a few times every few weeks and doesn't work the rest of the time. I have to use the key to open it instead.

The clicking is the weird part, when I try to press the unlock button for the doors.
