It's dirt build-up in the copper ring contact behind the steering wheel.

Get some fat pipe cleaners and electrical contact cleaner and get the debris out.

Job done.

will i be able to just spray it in there? is it not a sensitive area with the airbag connections and stuff being behind there?

As PoloD says, it's probably dirt on the horn slip ring, which is below the air bag. If you have a compressed air supply (or a can of Fellowes Air Duster) you might be able to blow it out.

Note: If you use the Fellowes stuff, do it with the doors or windows wide open, although they call it an Air Duster, this stuff is definitely not fresh air!!!

It might also be worth checking that the plastic steering column cover isn't being contacted by some part of the steering wheel.

Regards
