I noticed earlier that the paint on the roof of my tornado red mk2f is bloomed in places with white blochy bits,when I got the car it was badly faded all over but I t cutted the paint twice and that seemed to bring the paint up to a shine but I never used it since as I noticed the paint was getting incredibly thin in places so I've waxed it instead with turtle wax but I thought I got all the blooming out but I clearly haven't but I want to remove it as it really lets the car down,I wondered if anyone could recommend me a product to remove the blooming without making the paint any thinner?

something like autoglym super resin is much milder than t cut , but you wont get around the fact you need to remove paint to bring it back to life

just use whatever is mildest to get the job done and keep it waxed /sealed

as above. Blooming is actually the paint oxidising and certain colours show it worse than others (tornado red and Monaco blue are pretty bad). This layer of oxidation needs to be removed. I'm suprised the paint is getting thinner though, you must have removed a lot in two goes. I used to do mine regularly and I never thinned the paint.

I wouldn't use t-cut in any situation tbh. Something like farecia (sp?) G10 is better if you need a harder cut. Just don't go mad and keep it lubricated too to make it easier. Then use a quality polish and then wax. In fact you could try a polish first and if that doesn't work, go to a specialist cutting compound (G3 etc). Always use the softest compound first.

However, better than this is prevention so use a quality shampoo whenever you wash to prevent the oils in the paint leeching out. Using fairy liquid or other detergent will speed this process up. Then use a quality wax to add oils back and reduce uv exposure. NEVER polish and not wax. This will leave the paint surface open to further damage. You can howeve wax without polishing.

You will find that most red paints are affected by sunlight - I'm not just talking car paint here, look at any picture, for example that has been exposed to sunlight, most of the red whill have gone and you are left with a lot of blue.

With regards to the car, as said above, prevention is better than cure - parking it out of direct sunlight also helps.

If you go down the route of having the roof resprayed, make sure that you get someone who knows what they are doing, as for the same reasons as above, the rest of the paint will no longer be as 'standard' colour - Reds can be a swine to match up.

I've painted a few panels on my 6N, looked good at first, but as said it all fades at different rates and now they're no where near the same colour. So id try other stuff before getting it painted. Had to do mine due to damage

We had a MK2 Tornado (i think) red polo from new. The roof was scratched before delivery and was sent back to the dealer to be resprayed. Within a year it was back because it had bloomed again and even after this respray it still bloomed. I ended up painting it white first then did a union jack on it instead! It was unique at least!
