Intermittent fuel guage reading

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently paid a local garage to fit a new fuel tank (but refit the old lift pump and sender unit) to my mk3 polo, and ever since my fuel guage reading has been a bit suspect, sometimes it'll read sometimes it wont.

And recently it seemed to be more not then on.

In fact last week it hasn't read at all.

If anyone has got any handy hints that would me much appreciated.

I can undo the inspeciton hatch and see a white connector with 3 wires. Can I check anything with a multimeter.

Cheers

Joe

Remove the connector from the tank unit, then if you short the Lilac/Black wire on the plug to Brown wire, the gauge should then indicate full, this will prove the wiring and the gauge, if this OK remove the tank unit and check the resistance between the connections on the unit for the Lilac/Black & Brown and see if it changes smoothly as you raise & lower the float
