ABS light, Handbrake light and Power steering light came on!

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem...

I've got a Polo 9n, bought some alloys for it a few days ago, I put 2 of them on the rear and left steels on the front because I was waiting for a new tyre for one of the alloys to go on the front. I started to get a crunching noise coming through the brake pedal every so often, and yesterday the ABS, handbrake and steering light came on and the speedo dropped down to zero.

Anyone have any idea what could of caused it, cheers

Check the fuse link on top of the battery. Remove them and hold them up to the light it's well known for these to crack and have strange things happen. Bad part is that when they are fitted you can't easily notice the crack.

Also worth checking also where the fusboard connects to the battery post. There is a thread bolt sticking out of the positive terminal and a nut holds them together, again common fault is that from vibration the nut can work loose and destroy the threads meaning that when the engine is running the power is randomly cutting out and re connecting.

Cheers I will check that tomorrow.

I have put my steels back on the rear and since I've done that I've not had any problems... Maybe the alloys were causing something but I can't see why when they are only an inch bigger and the offset is different, but they don't seem to be catching on anything.
